Have you ever heard a intro that remind you of another song ???? Here are two...... Color My World - Chicago (the intro reminds me of "Love Don't Love Nobody" by the Spinners) Take It To The Limit- The Eagles (this one reminds me of Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes' " If You Don't Know Me By Now" intro) Can any of you think of any ???? Peace, Mike Boone (Chancellor of Soul) chancellorofsoul.com

YES! Take These Broken Wings - Foreigner STOLE that part of the song that says 'take...this broken wings...' From Marvin Gaye's YOU, and got away with it! Ray Parker - For Those Who Like To Groove PARLIAMENT FUNKADELIC - One Nation Under A Groove. Ray Parker is my man, but did he get questioned about this? Straight rip-off! ...and dont talk about 'Ghostbusters' and The Huey Lewis and the News song 'I Want A New Drug' I still dont hear it...and those are my boys too...

Hey Chancellor, I always thought the intro of End Of The Road by Boyz II Men, sounded quite like Love Don't Love Nobody. Then there's Falling In Love by Alicia Keys which should be called It's A Man's Man's World Pt 3. That arpeggio throughout the song sure sounds like It's A Man's World to me. Juice |

Hi again, soulful brothers & sisters! Hi, Chancellor! Good trhead for refreshing our musical "data-base" in our brains! In the book of the 3 x CD "Philly Sound. G & H And The History Of The Brotherly Love", tolds that Bill Scymzyck (the producer of Eagle's "Take It To The Limit") admits he imitate the "If You Don't Know Me By Now" intro (as a tribute?). I always was intrigued by the high resemblance betwen the Dramatic's "Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get" intro and the intro of "Turn On, Tune In, Cop Out" by Freak Power. I think in more intros later (don't remember more by now). Peace & Soul Food |

There's a line by Rod Stewart that starts: "Have I told you lately that I Love you" which also is a line directly out of "I Forgot To Be Your Lover" by William Bell. The melody on the Stewart song during that same line is almost identical to that of the William Bell song. There's a line from "S-W-I-M" by Bobby Freeman, "Come on everybody, come on in...." just before:"Bobby's gonna show you how to do The Swim!", that is almost Identical to a similar lead line into a Chubby Checker song. I can't remember which. |

Huey Lewis was approached by the studio that made Ghostbusters, and was asked to write something that was similar to his "I Want A New Drug" for it. He didn't like the idea and passed. When the movie and theme came out, he sued and several years later won. |

Hello Everyone. How about the intro to "I'll Take You There" by THE STAPLE SINGERS .. it is identical to that of "The Liquidator" by Jamaican Reggae star HARRY J. Oh yes, and HARRY J's record came out in 1969, two years before THE STAPLE SINGERS release, so I think this is an instance where R&B "borrowed" from Reggae. Roger |

From a 2/4 to 4/4 count...I can hear the similarities between the bass line in 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' and Chicago's - '25 or 6 to 4.' Everytime I hear either song I think I wonder if Chicago got that bass lick from George Harrison... |

Anybody remember the controversy several years ago regarding George Harrison's "My Sweet Lord" and The Chiffons' "He's So Fine"? The songwriters of HSF sued Harrison (and won) saying that MSL was taken note-for-note from HSF. Although Harrison claimed the two songs were not the same, I must say that to my un-trained ears, the songs sound identical. |

DyvaNaye. I can't place that GERALD LEVERT song you mention, but another song which has a bassline that sounds like "Ain't Understanding Mellow" by JERRY BUTLER & BRENDA LEE EAGER is "Sly Slick and Wicked" by SLY SLICK AND WICKED on the Brunswick label. I don't know which of these came first. They were both recorded in Chicago around 1971/2, so maybe they were the same musicians. And on the subject of entire SONGS that sound the same have you ever tried singing the words of "Rock Your Baby" by GEORGE McRAE to "When You're in Love With a Beautiful Woman" by DOCTOR HOOK? The similarities are amazing!! And there was a popular "Northern Soul" song on Mirwood records that had an intro just like that of "Ain't That Peculiar" by MARVIN GAYE. Can't remember the title offhand .. but I think it may have been "I'm satisfied with you" by THE FURIES? Roger |

The chorus of The Sylvers' "Wish That I Could Talk To You" sounds quite a bit like The Intruders' "Slow Drag." There was an R&B cut from the late '80s or early '90s (I don't remember the name) that stole the bass line from Jean Carn's "Free Love." |

Hello again, soulful friends! Hello, Juice! How I have cry of laughin' with Benny Hill! Some more TV series that remember me some songs: Not the same intro, but the same "feel" can apreciate in "Sunshine And You" by The Futures and the "jingle" of "Vacaciones en el mar", a northamerican TV serie that was programmed in spanish TV in the last 70's - first 80's (perhaps the original american title was "Hollidays In The Sea", ?). Also have a very similar intro and rythm structure betwen People's Choice's "Do It Any Way You Wanna" and Cleveland Eaton's "Bama Boogie Woogie". Some songs writed by the same authors have very similar intros as Intruder's "Love Is Like A Baseball Game" and Jerry Butler's "Never Gonna Give You Up" Peace! |

LOL... there is a verse in the song where he sings 'baby...they way you push up on me...' you can hear the obvious 'Understanding Mellow' bass line...

Great topic Mike! Here are a few songs that I think sound the same: THE END OF THE ROAD by Boyz II Men sounds just like Jean Carn's CLOSER THAN CLOSE. I'm not sure if it's because these are the same type of ballads but there is something about these two songs that are very similar. The only difference is that Jean can actually sing and she doesn't have to resort to hysterics like Boyz II Men did! The intro to Doris Duke's obscure but excellent IF SHE'S YOUR WIFE (WHO AM I) was lifted from Neil Diamond's SWEET CAROLINE. The similarities stop there! LOL. I've always thought that Missy Elliot's SOCK IT 2 ME ripped off Linda Jones' FUGITIVE FROM LOVE. Did anyone else notice this? It even sounds as if she sampled the exact same horn chart! Miss Elliot owes writer George Kerr some money! I love The Emotions to death but their hit single BEST OF MY LOVE sounds an awful lot like The Eagles' BEST OF MY LOVE. The Eagles single was released in 1975, two years before The Emotions hit. I've never cared for either song much. The Emotions had much better songs that should've went over big on the charts!

Hello again Everyone .. Manny .. There was a hit single in Britain around 1978 called "Saddle Up and Ride Your Pony" ( Can't recall who by ) that was a dead ringer for "Do it Anyway You Wanna", even more so than the CLEVELAND EATON song you mentioned. Juice .. my apologies for stealing your thunder over "Sly Slick and Wicked" .. when I got home last night I decided to play it and couldn't find my C.D. of their Brunswick L.Ps. After a panicky 10 minutes or so I got out a Brunswick compilation I have and realised that the group name is THE LOST GENERATION not "Sly Slick and Wicked" at all. Maybe I need to visit SD Anonymous again!! DyvaNaye .. I shall keep an eye (ear? ) out for that GERALD LEVERT track. Anyway, back to '60s soul music .. does anyone else out there think that the intro to "One in a Million" by MAXINE BROWN sounds just like a slowed down version of the intro to "Uptight" by STEVIE WONDER? Hello again, soulful brothers & sisters! Hello, Vonnie & Clyde! (pardon, I wanna say Vonnie & DivaNaye). You are the Jobim's Girls From Ipanema! Hi, Robb K, you're so right in yor Los Bravos - Four Tops comparison! Also I comment in another trhead about the similar intro in "Black Is Black" and in the Trammp's "Trammps Disco Theme". Also have two "special effects" intros very similar: "Expressaway To Your Heart" by Soul Survivors and The Dramatic's "Tune Up". Two tunes that have a same "spirit" (?), or simply one made me remember the other are Cat Steven's "Back To Earth" and Harold Melvin & The Blue Note's "You Know How To Make Me Feel Good". And (as a tribute) the two McFadden-Whitehead intros (IMHO) most similars: MFSB's "Sunin & Funin" and Melba Moore's "Standing Right Here". Hi, friend Roger, thanks for your info. I don't knows this tune. I'm glad you knows about the one by Cleveland Eaton (I believed this is a very rare groove!). Peace & Soul Food |

"Nursery Rhymes" by People's Choice kind of reminds me of "Do It, Fluid" by The Blackbyrds. "You Can't Run Away" by The Bar-Kays sounds like it was lifted from Earth, Wind & Fire's version of "Can't Hide Love." The Gap Band's Oops! "I Don't Believe You Want To Get Up And Dance" is a P-Funk ripoff. |

What's up DVD Mike, I was about to say the same thing of The Gap Band's tune you've just mentioned. Especially where the horn break comes in, reminds me of The Brides track "Disco To Go". Doesn't The Lost Generation's tune "The Sly, The Slick, The Wicked and Jerry Butler & Brenda Lee Edgar tune "An Understanding Mellow" awfully sounds simuilar....I love the bass guitar chords to both, if someone where to play one of the other tune, all one has to do is think of the same chord structure. |

Juice, can you believe that I've never even heard The Delfonics' 'Ready Or Not Here I Come'! I remember reading the credits to Missy's "Supa Dupa Fly" album years ago and I was shocked that Linda Jones' 'Fugitive From Love' was not credited. Linda's first version of 'Fugitive From Love' was released in 1965 before The Delfonics tune so Missy's 'Sock It To Me' may very well be a rip off of a song that ripped off another song. LOL. |

Hey Don, That's ok my friend. I've skipped past a few posts as well. I'm just glad to have it verified that these ears still work!!! Hey Rod, now that you mention it, I do see the similarity between Ready Or Not & Fugitive From Love & indeed Fugitive is 3 years older than Ready Or Not. If you've ever seen the movie The Five Heartbeats, Ready Or Not was the song playing when Duck went to see Tanya Sawyer. Unfortunately, he watched her drive off with her boyfriend in that shiny car. Oh well.... I'm surprised that George Kerr never weighed in on that subject. Imagine that, looks like sampling was around even back then....who'da thunk it ;-) (Message edited by Juicefree20 on May 28, 2004) |

Im a sometimes victim of the SOAPOPERA Network...where I can get my Dallas/Falcon Crest/Knots Landing Re-runs on....yeah so what, I watch 'em...lol...those are classics...'Who Shot JR? Love it! Anyway, while watching the Knots Landing portion I noticed striking similarities to the horn intro of the theme song sounding very familiar to 'In The Stone' by E, W, and Fire...and the two meet up with each other in years...'In The Stone' was 1978 and that episode theme of Knots Landing was 1979...somebody call Maurice about some royalities! |

Does anyone else think that Yarbrough & Peoples' 1986 hit 'Wrapped Around Your Finger' sounds just like the S.O.S. Band's 'No One's Gonna Love You' or is it just me? I know that a lot of producers switched to that 808 sound in the mid 80's so I'm sure that there are several songs that sound like these two. You can throw Juicy's 'Sugar Free' into this soundalike category too. I still love all of these songs though. |

The Ohio Players did a thing called "Black Cat" on their Ecstasy album on Westbound that ripped off a guitar lick I liked from a tune on Sly and the Family Stone's There's a Riot Goin' On. Fred Wesley and the JB's ripped off the Players' Skin Tight practically note for note with a tune called "Makin' Love." I wasn't happy about that one. |

Janet Jackson's "Let's Wait a While" has the same melody line as Glenn Frey's (orig. of the Eagles) song "One You Love," |

Hello again, soulful folks! My sister played a single (don't remembver the title) by Patrick Hernandez that starting with a very similar notes to "The Big Gangster" by O'Jays (from "Let's Clean Up The Ghetto" Lp). Also, one time i plays a cassette domestical selection in the car that includes "I See You When I Get There" by Lou Rawls and a freind who come with me says: this sounds exactly like "Love Is In The Air" (?????!!!!). Perhaps he was right. Peace! |

Al Green's 'Oh What A Wonderful Thing Love Is' must've touched Teena Maries heart, because she 'straight-up' took the bass line from that song and placed it in her newest single... |

My little contribution to this thread is: Gerald Leverts "You Are" sounds uncannily like Williams Devaughns "Be Thankful for What You Got". Both musicallly and lyrical content.....hell IMO he should have callled the Song "You are the Reason Why I'm Thankful for what I got " ...and the band played on.......
