I just got finished listening to the latest manhattans cd, "Even Now" and let me tel you that IMO it is great!! They released it on Blue Lovett's Love-Lee label and it realy deserves to be picked up by a major. Included is a phenomenal rendition of Turn Out the Stars done as only Geral Alston can do. I highly recommend it for all of the 70's classic soul fans out there. |

Hi Bobby, Now.. this is strange.. but I have had the 'Even Now' CD since 2001...which includes their fine version of Ali Ollie Woodson's 'Turn Out The Stars. Maybe they re-released it.. or was it not released at all in the States? Barry PS.. please read the Jackie Moore thread....!! |

'Turn Out The Stars' is indeed a great remake of Ali Ollie Woodson. Wasen't there a thread on Ali on this board somewhere? LOL Eli - I'm glad you enjoy the latest disc by the Manhattans. A very good friend of mine produced the album, his name is Ted Perlman. What's your oppion in ref to the track 'Let's Try Love' a duet with another great vocalist Peggi Blu (ted Perlman's wife). 'Love Me Right' is a classic!! It's unfortunate that the company behind the Manhattans never alowed to have it released for the European market. A UK label was interested at the time and I know it would've done Gerald Alston, Blue Lovett and all the other boys and girls a lot of good. Some things are not ment to be I geuss. Anyway you've got great taste in music Eli (but you allready knew that) LOL Best wishes, Andreas Hellingh www.thesoulofamsterdam.com

Hi Andreas! Why wont the company let a UK label put it out, as Im sure that Expansion would do it in a heartbeat. BTW, I also like Any other way quite a lot. Looking forward to receiving your cd. |

Hey Eli! As a matter of fact Expansion Records wanted to put it out at the time, the link was made when Ted Perlman approached Expansion (because the label had put out some records on his wife, Peggi Blu in the past, including Miss Blu's latest CD 'Livin' On Love' (which comes HIGHLY RECOMENDED! I don't remember the whole story (and it wouldn't be appropriate to talk about sensitive subjects on a public forum) but I guess you could say it was more a money issue then anything else. A shame really because Blue Lovett and Gerald Alston could've used all that good press which they would've received from Europe and shop for a major US deal instead. I guess it was not mend to be! A shame because it's such a great album (hence, cats like Billy Preston, Brandon Fields, Terry Young, Peggi Blu, Will Waeton participated on the album)!! I remember that some of the US stations started to pick up the single, late 2003. I don't know what happened after that. Whatever it was... it was not enough in my honest opinion. Anyway, I received promos today and Im off to the post office tomorrow to mail out your package (you should have it in hand in approximate 5-days). Best wishes, Andreas Hellingh www.thesoulofamsterdam.com |

Thanks John! I think all Manhattan's fans and soul lovers alike will love this one! Its as good as any they did in the 70's. Now that they are performing a couple of the songs in their live show makes it even better. A chance to see them LIVE today...I guarantee it will blow you away. S.S. |

Thanks Soul_Sister! - I hope The Guy's make it to the UK again soon. Gerald never seems to look any older and his Vocal seems still like a youngster!, how old will he be now? I remember meeting Gerald when he first signed for Motown and he came over as part of the European Tour, Motown UK put out a special DV for Radio Stations, which of course I got him to sign my copy for me - another True Gentleman of our Great Music. John "Love me Right" is on equal as my favourite track with "Turn our The Stars" |

Hi John; Gerald will be 53 in November. Yes, its true he still sounds the same as 33 years ago when he first joined the group! Blue and the other original members would be in the 65 year old range or a little younger, Blue still has his wonderful bass voice too. Yes, Gerald has always been a gentleman and kind person from day one. Take Care, S.S. |

Hello Everyone. John Barry .. where are you? Where I am ( East London ) its been raining all afternoon and the skies are grey. Anyway, back to the subject of the thread. This sounds like another C.D. I have to get .. a couple of weeks back I got a C.D. twoofer of THE MANHATTANS Carnival L.P.s on Kent .. very nice stuff, but IMO they improved when GERALD ALSTON joined. I have his solo L.P. on Motown ( from 1988/89?) and that is great too. And John .. our dear mate Bobby did work with the guys for a while ( or at least they recorded in Philly so I presume he was involved ) .. "You'd Better Believe It" is still my favourite MANHATTANS track of all time. Roger |

I have kown the Manhattans personaly for over 35 years and they have ALWAYS been gentlemen. I remember when Gerald came into the group and he just knocked me out with his soulful delivery. I played guitar on all of their Philly recorded tracks. |
