I read on a forum from January that someone was trying to find out what had become of Bettye. Not sure if this is helpful, but Honest Jon's Records in London (who put together the recent candi Staton compilation) are about to release a Bettye Swann retrospective album, including previously unreleased tracks. Soul Brother, Wonder, man did I love Don't Touch Me. I was 9 when that song came out & it always reminds me of a young girl named Linda. Her mother was named Polly & she loved that song. The young girl Linda died around the time of that songs popularity. She couldn't have been more than 11 or 12. After all these years, I don't remember exactly the cause of her death, I think it was Leukemia. I just remember that we were only kids, we were shocked & we sure didn't understand it. It's funny the things you remember & why some songs stay with you. Wonder: Great ad as usual! Soul Brother: thanks for the link & the Soul! I sure can't wait to hear that unreleased material. Hi everyone, I certainly hope that Bettye Swann will be found some day-she's one of my all-time favourite singers. I read somewhere online that she works for the postal office in New Orleans-are there any postal workers here that could look into that lead maybe???? My personal fave with her is "Be Strong Enough To Hold On", a beautiful Phillip Mitchell song. Mitchell himself does a stupendous version of this song on his "Just The Beginning" CD on Grapevine. I just would like for Bettye to realize that many of us are interested in her & her story. I hope that she'll resurface. It could be that that's a part of her life that she'd like to leave in the past. | ||

A few years ago a producer told me that she was living in Las Vegas. He also told me that she would be coming to Los Angeles to have treatments for her back problems. He wanted us to hook up since she didn't know that many people in L.A., unfortunately we never did get the opportunity to meet. | ||

I know that someone has recently phoned Bettye about the forthcoming cd in England and I'm sure he said that she was in Las Vegas, working as a nursery nurse, I believe. The old memory isn't working too well on this one.She was cautious about the phone call and was going to phone back. Someone else who was burned by the industry? David. |
