You should see Eddie and David performing together! They danced, hugged each other and just sang their hearts out! They really loved each other, it showed during their performance (1987). Eddie had on a creamy white suit with a pale pink shirt and tie (looking so damn sexy) and David had on a black suit, also looking good. Watching them reminded me of the times I would go to the Motown Review at the FOX and watch them jam. Everybody waited for the TEMPTATIONS! Great DVD with performances from Mary Wells (looking so beautiful!) and Martha Reeves (and her tambourine!). Has anyone seen this? Have you ever longed for the past? I think I'll be up all night watching this again and again. A- |

Yes! Seen it and my brother also has it on DVD. Actually saw this tour back in '86 or '87 when it was on the road. |

ARCADIA~~~It is also the name of a famous Skating Rink/Ball room here in Detroit city, where everyone used to party and have a good time back in the day. |

Hello everyone, I have this tape on VHS & I agree with Acardia. The performances of David & Eddie were the best. I didn't think David looked well, nevertheless he gave his all. His 'Staute Of Fool' pose cracks me up everytime! And Eddie, he looked like he was having a ball! He & David had such wonderful chemistry. It's shame that they have gone onto glory but God knows best. BTW, on the DVD version, are there interviews with the performers? I don't recall there being any interviews with Mary, Martha, David & Eddie on the VHS version. Peace! |

Hi guys: The only extras I recall on the dvd are biographies and discographies of each of the performers. This tour came to Boston back in 1987 and played the Channel nightclub. Unfortunately, I was too young to go to clubs so I didn't get a chance to see the show. I was lucky enough to hear the four of them do a radio interview, and later on, one of our local shows, COMING TOGETHER, did a profile on them. |

Arcadia FINALLY comes up for air <gasp>!! I've been looking at the DANCING IN THE STREET DVD in all my spare time. I've read all of your comments and I'm going to respond to all of them right now. OK, where do I start? Watching that video is like having good sex that you don't want to end! (I hope it's OK to say that;-) First I want to say after looking at the performances of Eddie Kendrick(s) and David Ruffin in so many frame freezes (thanks to whom ever invented DVD) and observing their total body language while performing, I can see why they died within one year of each other. On a spiritual level those two connected FAR BEYOND what anyone could see on the surface, it was WAY OVER our heads! The way they looked at each other, and each has the other's back. They play off each other and it's the most beautiful thing to see. It's like this is plan A and if the audience is starting to get quiet, we'll go to plan B. They knew each other as they have been team mates for most of their adult lives. The connection, the love, THE TALENT!! Where Eddie can reach those high notes, David is there to reach them for him. When David's voice needs a little blending, or the audience seems to get restless, Eddie does his little dance steps to David's talking dialogue, I mean it's really SOMETHING to see. Each is looking out for their brother man and it's two of the most talented singer's of all time. David, I listen to him sing "Statue of a Fool" and you can't TELL ME that he doesn't sound better than Elvis, John Lennon, Frank Sinatra, Elton John, Barry Manillow and all the other over rated $$Million Dollar$$ singers, dead or alive. I don't mean to disrespect these very talented people, but David Ruffin and Eddie Kendrick, IMO, are two of the most talented artists of all time, or at least in my life time. It is no longer a mystery to me about the closeness in their deaths. I truly believe that in spite of the lung cancer that would take the life of Eddie Kendricks, he also died of a broken heart. From time to time in the video they would just hug each other as to say, I'm so glad you're here with me. And when they left the stage....each had their arm around each other. That made a clear statement. His bud, his lifelong singing partner was now gone and well, as they say, what becomes of a broken heart? I think we know that answer as it pertains to Eddie Kendricks. I learned one thing watching this DVD......Eddie likes to dance! He was having a ball while he and David were singing "I'm Loosing You" and the spontaneous hug Eddie gave David while performing "I Will Never Love Another After Loving You" (even if that hug was part of the act,and maybe someone here at SD knows, it was still beautiful and "looked" spontaneous) I think it was. About my user name, Arcadia. Thanks for all those compliments Tony and Medusa. Indeed my user name is taken from the famed Arcadia Roller Rink on Woodward Ave. The Arcadia was the place to go and meet your friends. Only one problem. My parents wouldn't let me go! So one night I told my Mom I was going to White Castle to pick up some food and I would be back. My girlfriend also went along with this white lie because she also wanted to go to the Arcadia. OK, so now our alibi was in place, we had skates and we had transportation. So on to the Arcadia we went. Now FINALLY we have arrived at the ARCADIA! We were so excited and full of anticipation! Well, when we opened that red door to the Arcadia we saw dust flying everywhere!!! There were people skating in lines of 8 and we nearly got knocked over just trying to get in! Skaters were dancing, skating and suddenly a guy FLEW IN THE AIR, jumped down in front of us, BAMB! Right on que to the music. Suddenly we looked at each other and RAN OUT of the Arcadia. A nice looking guy followed us out knowing why we left and suggested we come during the day. We agreed, but we never went back. The skaters at the Arcadia were the BOMB! About David Ruffins' appearance in the video. I agree, Common. David did not look well and perhaps had lost weight. But THE VOICE was there 1000000%. Eddie made some notes and sometime he didn't quite make the high notes. But he caught himself and was right back on track. You know I was thinking that perhaps at this time the early stages of the lung cancer that he had might have started to take it's toll on his beautiful voice. But at the end of the day Eddie Kendricks was an outstanding artist/showman who could out sing any of the above mentioned "greats" any damn day of the week! Tony, I have so many stories to share about the Motown Review at the Fox theater and I can't wait to share them. Thanks for all your comments and PLEASE talk to me!! I'm a diehard Eddie Kendrick/David Ruffin fan and I loved video! We're talking about greatness here, truly they were great! A- |

Oh no Gil, its a US release, Purple Cow Productions..I had gotten my copy at Suncoast Motion Pictures which is a Mall chain store. Arcadia, it would be cool if you started a thread about remembrances of the Motortown Revues. You are so right about David & Eddie onstage together...it was magical. Both were great guys who really connected with their fans. |

Hi Gil. It was very difficult finding "Dancin In The Street" on DVD. I purchased mine at Amazon.com. At the time of the purchase I was told it was in stock. In spite of that info, it took over four months to receive the DVD (with an apology and a gift certificate of 15.00). Finally, I received an email that it was on the way! It is well worth the wait. Hey All I witness that show live all 3 nights it appeared at the Forum Inglwood California. At the time at worked there so I was able catch the performances each night. The crowds were not big at all.The shows were poorly promoted. Mary & Martha didn't have back up singers. I purchased my dvd about 2 years ago at Tower records |

Hi Roddee, Thanks for the feedback. I still think David and Eddie had the best performances. Was that your observation roddee? You know, I was wondering about the size of the crowd because I kept seeing the same faces, but I just thought those audience member's had better or VIP seats. I can see the heavy edit but that DVD sells on the talents of all 4, Mary, Martha, Eddie and David Ruffin.
