I just read part of the book written by Jimi's dad Al, and here's a quote from it. Can anyone verify or tell what song he was talking about??? "Once Jimi started playing the chitlin circuit, he always kept in touch by postcards, phone calls, or letters. Hed let me know where they were playing. He told me about cutting some records, but I dont know who he was playing with at that time. Jimi did tell me he backed the Supremes on a record, but his name wasnt mentioned on the album. He felt pretty good about doing that, because the Supremes were so well known." "Around 1964 Jimi started playing with the Isley Brothers, and he went on tour with them."

I read somewhere that Jimi did a lot of back-p and session work in the early '60s on R&B and early soul records. |

I know he worked with Joey Dee and became good friends with the Ronettes. I never heard about working with the Supremes in the studio. Besides, in the early 60s, they weren't well known and in the early-mid 60s musicians were not credited on album covers (except for Phil Spector lps!). |

I had an RCA EP by the Isleys years ago with Jimi on which included 'How High The Moon', if memory serves. They (or he) said that before they took him on he was living on the street with rats stealing the food from his pockets. Never heard that he worked for the Supremes before |

I have a T-Neck l.p. that was distributed by Buddah Records called "In The Begining...The Isley Brothers and Jimi Hendrix." It's a collection of 45's they released, I think, as singles. It has, amongst others, "Testify" (parts 1 and 2) "Have You Ever Been Disappointed" and "Wild Little Tiger." On the back Ron Isley recalls all sorts of Jimi stories. One tells how just before the Isleys switched over to Motown Jimi was talked into going to England by members of The Animals. |
