Hello All: Well the 2nd get together of the SD45CC meet last night. Brian T and myself where discussing Detroit/Michigan Artist and record lables when we got a call from Ralph out on the left coast. Once again hot tunes and cool drinks and a little dinner was partaken last night. Some of the local Detroit labels that where mentioned and played where: Prime Cool School Viney Allright Ramrock Clissac Ge Ge Grand Land Palmer Drew A bit of funk, northern and soul was played this evening. Of course a little Philly style gems hit the turntable. I am sorry to say that I forgot to bring my digital camera so sorry no pics of this get together. I will post a list of what was played later.

I assume you mean RamBrock, right? Or was there also a Detroit label called "Ramrock" (named after the Johnny and The Hurricanes' song)? |

No big deal. It was only a typo. If I could have been certain of that I wouldn't have mentioned it. The fact that there were so many little Detroit labels made me think that maybe it isn't a tyo. Maybe there was a Ramrock label, too. So, I had to ask to find out for sure. Stranger things have happened. |

soulaholic, I think there was only one 45 on Prime, by the Bee Jays. I would guess the Cool School 45 was Don Hart's, and the Viney disc must have been Forrest Hairston's. I think Allrite had five releases out - the best two being by Lill Dorr and Danny Moore. Was it Cody Black's "Going Going Gone" that you played on RamBrock? Clissac is a sister label, with just Joe L's disc - as far as I know. I would imagine you played a lot more than those that you've mentioned above.

Hey All: Acoolcat your info is correct sir. We did discuss and play alot more tunes that where mentioned. Just a limit of time with me being out over half a week from work. Now Sideburn, Joe and Gary we missed you all. Brian T has a wealth of knowledge about many styles of music. It was a great time and we ended up going back to the Woodward Brewery. Worked out well I brought different speakers. David M. the next get together will be in June around the middle of the month on a weekend. Most likely in Ferndale at the Woodward. Hope you can make it. |

David: I guess it took me a bit to figure out why you asked where we have the 45 shindig!! duh!! If you are looking for a location that allows for music, food, drinks and a quite area then the Woodward B would fit the bill. The Woodward Brewer is a central location in Detroit and the suburbs. It is a two floor building that serves good food and brews and cocktails. The management has been very cool about what we do and we have had a good time every time we go to the pub/brewery 7 inch records + cold pints + hours of conversation = SD45CC FUN. I am letting everyone know that we will be having a 45 Shindig in june about the middle of the month on a saturday night and one in July on the 17th my birthday around the time that the Soulful Detroit get together is happening here in Detroit. Hope to see you and many others in July when you come into town.

Soulaholic I'd like to see some kind of music playing when we all meet in Detroit, but we need someone else to organise it/play it. Either 16th or 17th would be fine with a preference for 60's music if possible . Let me know what you think please. David

Hello David: I am sure between the folks here in detroit and some of the people on the SD site we should be able to get together the music requested. I believe that a cd format would be easy and then other members could participate. Maybe a top ten tune type of thing. Will be glad to participate and coordinate that for you. |

Sorry I didn't post sooner. The two Brians had a blast last sat. Regretfully, I showed some poor manners as I kept running away from the table to check the score of the Pistons game. Lots of music discussed and I learned boatloads. Looking forward to the June throwdown. Come on you no-shows! Grab a stack of black wax and show us what you got. Thanks for everything, Soulaholic! |
