Hey All,

I just wanted to give a shout-out to my father - who went on the walkthru thru my new house in AL - yesterday. He kept telling me that he thought the house was "Nice", when we talked afterwards. I can see him now walking around and saying "Nice" upon entering each room - too. LOL!

One of my favorite memories of my father - was when he taught me to drive. I was 18 when I learned. Ewwwww - I was old by todays' standards - and in some cases.

I remember - I was working half the day in my senior year. I worked on the base as a grill girl - in the cafeteria from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. during the week - and 8:00 to 2:00 on Saturdays. LOL!

I used to wear an afro wig during that time. Anyway - my daddy eventually let me start driving to my job after school - because for my entire senior year - he had picked me up by 11:30 to take me to work. Bless his heart.

That is how I learned to drive. And - he co-signed for my first car - an automatic VW bug. In Germany - I decided that I had to have one for my first car - because my last boyfriend (Taylor) had one - and me wish came true. LOL!

Anyone got any memories they'd like to share - old or new?

Ha! The VW bug memory made me chuckle. I met a great guy in the early 70s and really liked him a lot. We were "going together" and one day out of nowhere came a bright yellow VW bug trying to run me over as I was going into his apartment. It was his ex-wife!! She was having a hard time letting go (apparently). I learned quickly that he was not worth it! LOL That's my VW story.

PS He looked just like Smokey (the Smokey from back in the day, pre-facelift and hair). But he still was not worth it, sadly.

All,

Linda Di - LOL! Priceless stuff.

One day - I was leaving the third real job I ever had - you know - one of the ones that don't last long - in the beginning and when one is young. Some know what I mean.

I was leaving the bank - where I worked - and I was getting ready to make a left turn on to Richmond Highway. I was at a stop sign or light - for God's sake. Well - Lord and Behold - this lady driving a big old yellow school bus - hit my VW bug. LOL!

I was too fit to be tied. I got it fixed and painted another green. Yet - I was minding my own biznez - waiting for my chance to make a move - when outta nowhere - BIP-BAM - no thank you - maman (sp?). LOL!

All,

Hey Destruction. I hear 'ya. I'll hit you up w/an email. We shall see - and thanks for the invitation. And - I'll still be logging in even in AL. I suspect - I'll keep the same email address and what not.

Another memory I have of my truckin' around in my fearless Bug days - was the time it caught on fire. LOL! A girlfriend and I was pittling around one day - and we stopped at a light. Well - when I looked in rearview mirror - I saw fire coming from the engine. In a VW - the engine is in the back.

I cried right there on the spot. You'd have to hear my girlfriend tell y'all about it. LOL! She finally relaxed and calmed me down - by mentioning - "Insurance." I got the bad boy fixed alright - and got it painted another green.

In over 12 years - my car was painted at least four or five different greens. Green is my favorite color, indeed. LOL!

I went to a house party given by a friend of mine one Saturday night in May of 1974. I was there for maybe an hour when I saw coming down the stairs the most beautiful girl I'd ever seen. She had a neatly coiffured Afro and had on a print blouse and dark slacks. Later, I got a dance with her and she told me her name was Linda. She was about to finish her junior year in high school and I had just graduated a year before. She and her date did not stay long, but the vision of this girl, how she looked and her fragrance haunted me the entire summer as I went from party to party looking for this girl. May, June, July and August went by with absolutely no trace of her. By September, I had completely given up all hope of ever seeing her again. Another friend (also named Linda) gave an after-party at her house after a high school football game. I stepped into the dark basement where everybody was dancing. "Summer Madness" by Kool & The Gang was playing as I looked around to see what I could see. I walked past a pack of pretty girls, turned to my left and...there she was! Linda! Before we got a chance to talk, some idiot had lit up a joint and the smell of it quickly made it's way upstairs where the party hostess' Dad could get a whiff of it. Within seconds he was down the stairs and ordered everyody out, the party was over. Outside, I spotted Linda walking toward me and I asked her for her phone number and she gave it to me, I was indeed a happy young man. We talked on the phone a number of times and even talked about going out. But at that time, my confidence level was not very high and I questioned whether a girl as fine as that would be interested in going out with someone like me. Needless to say, I didn't make a move and also needless to say, I didn't get the girl. Later, she told me that if I had made a move, I would have been successful. That is one of only a few regrets I have ever had in life. She wound up getting married some years later and eventually divorced. I ran into her a couple of months ago after having not seen her in 14 years. She is still as breathtakingly beautiful as ever, but as far as getting together with Linda, that ship has sailed. We still keep in contact, as she works near where I work and I run into her as she is leaving the train station on her way to work. If I had made the move back in 1974, who knows what might have happened. Well, unfortunately you can't go back. But you never know what can happen in the future.

DVDmike,

Three things.

1. To break out the Old School lexicon, that was deep. Maybe in another peek into your privies you could enlighten a bro on how your feelings have run since you met her after 14 years till now... I feel you, man.

2.What if that was Bongman, huh?

3. I didn't know people danced to Summer Madness. lol.

Now that I think about it, it could have been "Summer's Eve" or "Summer Breeze" by The Isley Brothers. I don't even think "Summer Madness" was even out yet.

Greetings All,

Thank God the server is serving again, indeed.

My father just informed me that "The New Super Walmart" is just five minutes away from my house - and that the Montgomery Mall is about eight minutes away. Yiiippppppeeeeee!

He tickles me relating information about this or that. He just reiterated again - how pleased I am going to be with my new house. He kept saying that I had to pass his house to get to mine - so I might have to stop at Pops place first when I get to town - and he'll lead me to my new pad. LOL! He wants to feel needed, indeed.

LOL - dvdmike. I had an almost similar experience.

Back in the early eighties - I rented a building on base in order to throw a party - that a girlfriend of mine was sort of planning. The DJ was from down the way where she and her family were from - so they knew of him.

Anyway - when I met this DJ/Cat - he was wearing shorts - and he indicated after we arrived at the building and right before the party began - that he was going to change clothes. Them shorts Bruce had on - must have gotten to me. A hand fan was definitly in order - when I looked back on it and in retrospect.

At one point - I was sitting at a table and at the door stamping folks that had a ticket - or selling to the ones that didn't. Bruce came up near where I was sitting - and my girlfriend happened to be there. Upon noticing him (And the fact that - he HADN'T changed clothes) - I asked him if he would consider playing a slow song every now and then - on top of all the fast songs he was serving up.

Why did I ask that! He said - "Are you trying to tell me how to play my music?", And - as he almost sneered. Needless to say - I was quickly put in my place and said - "No - you're doing fine." LOL! Although and doggonit- I was fitting half the bill - so in essence - I was paying his fee/salary. LOL!

He was hot at me - boy, that I had had the nerve to question his DJ'ing abilities. LOL! What is up w/persons like that - anyway?

Bruce D-Jayed at jam sessions almost every Friday & Sat. nights - and at that time - so after that particular party - we started going to where he DJ'ed more often.

To make a long story short - I went a few times - and we flirted. I thought he was interested in me, indeed. But.......he took so long to make a move until - I decided to put in for a job in Georgia near Atlanta & B'ham - so I could be near my grandmother. I'd been considering it before I met Bruce.

We went down to where Bruce DJ'ed less than a week before my move - and he followed me around for two hours. Yet......he just didn't say anything - and if he had of - I would have had to tell him I was leaving anyway - so ultimately - we were two ships pssing in the night.

I was gone almost five years - and I was told almost a year after I moved - that Bruce looked devastated when he'd heard within weeks after I'd left - that I had moved to Atlanta. See my friends didn't feel the need to mention that fact until almost a year later. And.......how slow can one dude be anyway? I believe in women speaking up for themselves - but at that time - I felt that it was his place to make the first move. LOL!

I'll finish it up later - for I got to run out. And soon - I'll tell y'all about one of my boyfriends in Germany - Lenny - and how he - crashed the "Homecoming Dance." LOL! GIs coming to a school dance was a no-no. LOL!

Some of my favorite memories involve my early teenage years back in Northwest Philly, when the seeds were first planted that eventualy grew into my involvement with the sound of Philly.

I remember one day when the dreamlovers were up there rehearsing and one of the guys had peed in his pants from drinking too much wine.
So my dear grandma said to him in her broken Yiddish accent" vy dont you just gif me your pants und I vill vash dem and iron dem for you, no problem"

My rehearsal room in our house was my musical college and my lesson in soul 101 and had it not been for my wonderful and understanding family, who knows where I would have wound up?

I also cherish the day I met Vonnie.
I can still see her walking thru the door that day, and we went to my kitchen and we talked and stuff, and the rest is history

By then I had moved to the Wynnefield section of Philly, although I was realy missing my North Philly roots.

Thats when I met Herb Johnson, and thru him I met Kenny Gamble and that was that!

Great A'noon All,

"Oh Happy Day." The French Open is here. My last day at work is Thursday - and in three weeks - I'm outta' here. I appreciate the blessings.

I wanted to finish up my (sort of boring by now - LOL!) story - from yesterday.

My God - Bruce was fine as a prince too - and what a body. But that is just the outside - we never had the chance to find out if we would have clicked on any level before I moved to Atlanta. So we didn't know each other a little bit.

I arrived back here in VA on a Friday evening - in April 1987. The next day - we went down to the joint where Bruce used to DJ. When we got there - we learned that The Hole In The Wall was being raided. LOL! Matter-of-fact - the police were still up at the main entrance of this building that was surrounded by small trees and road. This club had been open for over ten years before it was raided shut down forever.

I was too thru. Here I had just gotten back in town the evening before - I was finally going to see Bruce after almost five years - and the joint was being raided. LOL! We didnt even get all the way up there before we ran into some guys that told us the real deal of what was going on. We left and went to the NCO club on Quantico - and then after two hours - we went back down to that spot. It was four of us ladies riding around.

Anyway - we ran into some guys that gave some more up to date information - and w/the main one being the police were gone - and had had dogs. We sat in the car talking to these young men and then a truck rode by us going towards the empty building. Someone stated that - it was Bruce. I was like - Stop the truck. LOL! They reassured me that it was a one way - so he had to turn around and head back our way.

Bruce stopped - got out of his truck and approached the car we were in. He spoke to all - and then his eyes recognized me in the back in the cut. The way he spoke to me very amicable and animated, indeed. All I could do was wave. LOL!

To make a long story short - he invited us to another club - but we didnt go. It was after midnight. My friends told me right away - that I should have gotten into his truck. I was like - What? He didnt ask me in his truck , plus - he was living with someone. Two months later - he was married. LOL!

One of my girlfriends told one of their play cousins that I was back in town - and that we had ran into Bruce that night. This lady told her real cousin about that chance meeting - and her cousin was Bruce's girlfriend - and they lived together.

The day I found out that Bruce was getting married was a Saturday. I was deeply touched by it. It hurt - to be perfectly honest. Im over it now. LOL!

So that begs the question - how can it be - that one can have strong feelings for a person that one never even had a conversation or ever spent any time with? I mean - I used to think about him all the time at one time. Some know what I mean. This feeling was very similar to the "L" word, indeed. The only real sentence Bruce had ever said to me was - Are you trying to tell me how to play my music? LOL!

I would ask him to play a record when we used to go where he was DJing - and I always caught him off-guard and speechless when I approached his booth. He would just nod OK at my requests. One time - I remember asking him to play Cutie Pie, which was hot then. Once - I requested - Must Be The Music - so I was trying to represent. LOL!

Anyway - I soon soaked it up - and realized that even if we would have dated a time or two - it might not have meant that we would have still been attracted to each other strongly - or even at or after all.

It was not meant to be. I haven't seen Bruce since. It was just meant to tantalize the fact and to teach two people - that some ships do indeed pass each other in the night and in life, tis true.

Thanks for the reminder dvdmike. LOL!
