Years ago on one of those "Before They Were Stars" Specials I saw footage of a pre-fame Jimi Hendrix playing guitar with an obscure, Sam & Dave type Soul act named Buddy & Stacey. A few months later I came across a Buddy & Stacy single called 'Angel'/'Jealousy' (Twirl 2018) and I picked it up. As far as I can tell Buddy and Stacey weren't anything special. 'Angel' was the best song on the disc that I have and it's standard mid 60's Pop-Soul. This duo also had at least one release on the Raid label but I've never seen that one around. My question is exactly who were Buddy & Stacey and did Jimi Hendrix do any recording with them. I can't tell if Jimi played on the single I have or not. Thanks in advance. |

Hey Wonder. It wasn't live concert footage or anything. It looked like it was on one of those local American Bandstand type shows. If I remember correctly I think that the band was performing live. Don't quote me because it has been quite a few years since I saw that special. |

Both sides of Twirl 2018 were written by Leroy Johnson Jr and Travis Johnson III if that helps... |

I believe they're New Yorkers - only one of the second series on Twirl (the Volumes) seems to be from Detroit. davie |

BJL, on my Buddy & Stacey single the writers are listed as T. Johnson III and L. Johnson Jr. Were did you find their full first names? And if anyone was wondering both sides of the single (Twirl 2018) were produced by a Bobby Adams (?). |

Bobby Adams was definitely New York based - he'd a string of singles throughout the sixties, mainly on small labels but he was one of the earliest artists signed to Sue. BJL probably got the full names from the BMI database at www.bmi.com - an invaluable tool for record researchers. Davie |

Thanks Davie. That's what I figured. I've always thought that I was the only one that used www.bmi.com and www.ascap.com for research! LOL. Great minds think alike. |
