Hi All. Whatever happeend to A & M recording artist, Rockie Robbins? I was over a friend of mine's house last night and saw the album with the tune, You & Me. I also remember I Believe In Love and another song that escapes me at the moment. One of his producers was Bobby Martin. Any information would be helpful, thanks. Handsome |

I am also a big fan of RR. His first 3 albums are essential. "I believe in love" is up there with the best ballads ever recorded. |

Rockie Robbins other big cut was Hang Tough. I used to play it at my rink around 81. It was a dance cut & had a nice breakdown! |

Rocky Robbins is a Chicago native and at the time of his start in the music business, he was living in the south suburbs of {I don't know which township) Harvey, Markum, Dolton or Hazel Crest, in Chicago. Last I heard he was returning to do studio work and being a songwriter behind the scenes. "Where is he now, is a good question?". Maybe DVD Mike can answer that question for us. |

Hey Juice great pic. What kind of turntables and amps and mixboard you we're using at the time of this pic? Hi Mudusa, Rocky was like another Peabo Bryson. He popularity was well accepted everywhere, he got the push, still all he needed was a little more of it. |

Hi Don: Those were Technics 1800MKIIs, we used the GLI 1010 Processor, GLI 3990 Mixer, 8 Crown & 4 MacIntosh Amps, 8 Cerwin Vega ASS Kicker Bass bottoms & GLI columns & bullet tweeters. Medusa: I have that Lp. It's pretty good. For me, Hang Tough was the cut!! |

I liked Rocky Robbins music, especially "You and Me" from 1980 with back-ups done by none other than Jean Terrell and Lynda Lawrence of the Supremes! |

The problem with Rockie Robbins (from a success standpoint) is the fact that he did NOT tour in support of the 1st album...and for a newcomer (1st outing) that is a MUST ! Radio blew up "You And Me"...but that was more a result of the Larry Graham connection (he played bass on it) and how hot Larry was at the time. Aside from a television appearance or two...he was virtually unknown and very unseen. The was NO connection with the buying public. WRT "Whatever Happened To"....I have seen a new CD...released within the last 18-24 months. |

I have a cousin who knew Rockie Robbins, this was around the time he first came out in Chi-town. Everyone has mentioned "You & Me" which was a classic, but what about "Be Ever Wonderful" the awesome EWF jam?????? Now that was nice. Thanks for asking about Rockie, I've been wondering the same thing!!!! |

Hello Everyone. "Time to Think About It" by ROCKIE ROBBINS on A&M, from 1981/2 is a MUST HAVE for anyone who likes early '80s Soul. Love the rhythm (very "dancable"), love the song, love the vocals, love the arrangement. A treasured 45 of mine!! Just wish someone could release it on C.D. Roger |

I was around P.S. Recording when Rockie recorded one of his LPs for A&M. It might have been the first one, this might have been around 1978 or 79. He wasn't living in Chicago anymore by then. Nice guy. After that, I never saw him again. Does anyone know which cuts Bobby Martin produced on Rockie? |

Hey Mike Bobby M produced and arranged the album You and Me, Rockie's first for A and M. LP includes four songs written by Sam Dees, but I think I believe in love on his second album, done with Skip Scarborough, is his best song. Don't see how this wasnt massive. I saw Rockie way back when on a tour around the UK. Few in the audience seemed to have heard of him and he didnt grab much attention as one of the warmup acts but I loved his voice and he seemed a very smooth and capable artiste. He did great versions on You and Me and Believe in Love.

My sister had one of his albums--the one with the closeup of his face on the cover. I tried to play the album but kept wondering, "What is his appeal supposed to be?" If the songs mentioned in this thread are so good, maybe I will try to find the album in storage and give it another listen. |

Uptight...it's almost the same story with Donny Gerrard, who's 1st LP was released about the same time as Rockie's 1st. Good singer, good album...but NO label push and No connection with the record buying public. |

1wicked!!! Donny Gerard, now there's a name you don't hear too often! I remember seeing Skylark on the Midnight Special, singing "WildFlower", I thought the group was all white, because I remember the lead being very fair-skinned, with an afro and green eyes. That guy was Donny Gerard, what a beautiful voice, I have always loved that song since I was little!!! I recently found a cd he did about 3 years ago, where he re-recorded that song and some other ballads. He wears dreads now, or at least he did on this cd. |

Charise: I loved Donny's 1st solo LP...especially his take on "Words". I really thought he would have been a major player...somewhat like Peabo Bryson. |

I have a Rockie Robbins track entitled "Hang On" hidden away on a 4cd various artists compilation by the UK label Expansion Records. Don't know much about the song, but it sounds like it was recorded somewhere around the mid-nineties. |
