Hi All, I'm having computer trouble, going to get a new hard drive put in but in the meantime I'll try to get these photos on first since we'll be leaving for Boston in a few days. So for as long as thing holds out here goes (smile). We always have an amazing time whenever we go to California and this time was no exception. First off when we started out in the Cleveland-Hopkins Airport where people were running up to me and asking if that was Jimmy Scott saying they just saw his picture on the wall of the airport! He signed a few autographs and we went to check it out. Sure enough there was a big framed photo of him and other Jazz greats from different times who appeared at the Tri-C Jazz Festival. Here's a photo I took of the airport photo:

After our driver drop us at the hotel we had a visitor waiting to ensure our every need was met that was the beautiful Janine Watkins of "Bones & Blues". Janine stocked our room with a huge basket (purple ribbons & all) full of gourmet goodies, a California vanilla candle was burning a sweet scent from the table looking out the french doors onto the golf course and the beautiful swaying palm trees, the weather was absolutely georgous! And so much more... Here is a photo I took of Janine & her husband Tim in our hotel lobby:

The hotel pool was wonderful for an afternoon swim, I took in too much sun my first time out this year and got a wicked burn on my face from floating in the pool from one end to the other LOL! Pool side shots:

May 6th. A driver picked us up to take us to Crest Studios in Hollywood for the Rhino recording session to add on to Jimmy's documentry "If You Only Knew". The extended version will be out on DVD the end of August. Jimmy & his old friend Elie Adams from Cleveland and Caldonia's Revue days some 62 years ago talked about old times. Elie is a saxaphone player whom also was in Lionel Hampton's Big Band as well. Then the director had me talk about when Redd Foxx & Joe Louis sent Jimmy up to the Baby Grand in Harlem and what came out of that one week appearance sheduled that turned into 6 weeks appearance for Jimmy's New York Debut in 1945! Then what followed from that engagement. Then he asked about our marriage, honeymoon, etc... Here is Elie Adams & Jimmy in the studio:

When the session was over David Ritz picked us up and took us over to his home in Hancock Park, we always have a great time with David, whom I adore as a friend & brother. After the tour of seeing what David & his wife Roberta added on to their house since our last visit we went to my favorite place at David's, his funky studio!LOL! After watching a fabulous performance DVD of Bobby Blue Bland with guests Little Johnnie Taylor & Bobby Rush (which Jimmy immediately wanted to get,LOL!) It was a great performance. Mabel John wanted to see Jimmy so she drove herself over to David's house, we enjoyed her company and conversations of old times with Jimmy & her brother Little Willie John.! Here's a couple shots of Mabel & Jimmy together:

Afterwards we went back to Manhattan Beach and Janine & Tim picked us up and took us down to the beach and pier to check out the local scenery & beach homes, it was a fabulous day and magical night!! On May 7th. Jimmy rested up for the "gig" later that night and I took my imfamous dip in the pool for a couple of hours.! The "Show" was at Pheonix Hall a community center and large compound owned by Tim & Janine Watkins, where they host "Bones & Blues" as a tribute to the past and history of not only black music but also black history. They have an authentic looking museum on civil rights, the phlight of Dr. Martin Luther KIng, the hotel Lorraine, the jail cell, etc.. etc.. an incredable place journey thru history to experience. They are there to help local youth. I cannot say enough about how commendable their work & efforts are! They are located on 10950 South Central Avenue in Watts. Here is some information from their web site on their organization:

Jimmy was blessed with many awards from state & city officals. To add to what our friend 1Wicked posted, here are some of the highlights. Awards & Presenters: * County of Los Angeles-Yvonne Braithwaite & Mike Davis. * Mayor of Los Angeles-James Hahn * Congresswoman-Maxine Waters (Merle) * Govenor of California-Arnold Swartzeneggar (Tracee). * Assemblyman-Merv Donnelly (Tim) * Jazz at Drew-Roland Betts * TOA/WLCAC-Joseph Lee Another magical night as we all stood on stage crying! After Jimmy sang a tribute to me, "Embraceable You" our song, at the end of the show, the awards were then presented, after the awards were presented Janine & Tim's older daughter sang a song for Jimmy, she has a beautiful voice on its own with no musical accompaniment! But she's smart as talented, she's not seeking a career in music, no, a career in Law! Their twin daughters presented one of the awards to Jimmy. Then to the crowd's request Jimmy sang yet another extra song...his Lionel Hampton days hit "Everybodys Somebodys Fool" recorded in 1949, released early 1950. The crowd was great, enthusiastic, standing, cheering and wanting more, more... LOL! Yes, it was one of those pheononimal nights in the community where love expresses itself deeply & loudly! Still after all that I pulled Jimmy into the back of the center as not to have people emerge on the small dressingroom near the stage where the band and the food table was, so the band could eat in peace, Jimmy & I never eat till we get back to the hotel, this is a routine as Jimmy can't eat before or during performances. The area we sat down in was amazing to see in itself, as it was designed as a 1940's/50's dinner/malt shop! With original fixtures & accesories! This is where I, and 1Wicked, shot most of our photos. Here's one of Jimmy with Janine & Tim:

May 7th. at "Bones & Blues" was a fun time! May 8th. Jimmy, I, & the band flew up to San Francisco for another amazing event. We got some rest, the "gig" was Mother's Day May 9th. Our friend & photographer Henry Cheung called to tell me about the Manhattans being in town too (which he mentioned a month or so back, but I forgot) and Gerald wanted to see my face in the place. After some quick assessment we decided to go to theit 1st. show in Emmoryville at Kimmbel's East across the Bay Bridge at 5:00pm then rush back for Jimmy's "gig" at 8;00pm at the Herbst Theater in S.F. for the S.F. Jazz Festival! We were all happy to see each other after much love was exchanged we chatted then took photos together. The showtime came! We were given great veiwing seats in a booth on one of the tiers. The Manhattans sang all their greats, really put on a great show, whew, then Blue tributed Jimmy as a legend, one of the pioneers, who opened doors for them & others as, he spoke of the legend in the audience it was very touching, then he added my name to his tribute. Gerald tore down the building with "A Change Is Gonna Come" O-M-G, I thought my heart would stop or his, as he really poured his ALL into the song. Gerald did something I never saw him do, he jumped into the audience and sang his way close to us, taking everyone to church, he left us all totally drained! Henry was at the show the night before and said he didn't do that kind of show last night he did that for you! We were blown away! Then he sang an equally emotional gospel song, I was too through I thought I would pass out, Lord have mercy! Gerald, Gerald, Gerald!!! Afterwards, I thanked them Gerald kissed me on the lips & said I miss you, I love You Jeanie and squeezed me tight, Blue too. Don't take this wrong they've been my brothers for a long, long time. I hoped Jimmy wouldn't take it worng, he can get jealous, thank God he no longer drinks, he was cool.LOL! Then we rushed out to S.F. back across the bridge to our "gig"! We arrived a little after 7::00, we took a remote dressingroom for privacy. Henry took photos of Jimmy for his book. Then showtime! The theater reminded me of the Library of Congress or even a version of Carnegie Hall, it was an awesome peice of art & archetecture. The place was packed, Jimmy sang "My Mother's Eyes" for Mother's Day, as well as "Motherless Child" in his show, the audience stood on their feet cheering and sighing. Vonnie, told me Felix played it on his radio show too, the boards lit up with calls requesting he play it again, he did which he's not suppose too, still the phone calls came in for it again but this time he couldn't play it a third time, he appoligized to his radio listeners. Jimmy recorded "My Mother's Eyes" in 1951 on Roost! After the show I only allowed a few people in to say hello for a minute as he was very tired, it had been a long and busy 5 days! Here are some photos I took of the Manhattans, sadly the camera I used wasn't good, but better photos to come later. Damien Tyson & Blue Lovett:
