"Significant contributions to the history and development of Afro American Cultures." Austin - Would you restate your initial post over here? We don't want the Funk Brothers to feel obligated to the UK for the Funks giving Motown and the world, the baddest music machine in history. We would like to know your point. Thanks. Hi Sis, I'm sure you you and all the other long time forummers remember we've been down this road already - all we ended up with was a lot of transatlantic ill feeling. On the US end there was a feeling that the UK was accusing the US of being uninterested in recording their own history - on the UK end the feeling that our efforts to record that history and pay tribute to the music's creators was being unrecognised. It's been discussed since in threads with titles like "Is Soul appreciated more outside the US" - I said back then that we were approaching the thing from different directions - I'm not saying the US took it for granted that would be rubbish. What I am saying is that the UK and to some extent the rest of western Europe did a hell of a lot to record that history. I think that's what Austin means by "contributing to Afro-American history" Can we leave it at that ? Davie |

Dave Gordon - That's not what Austin said. What he actually said is "Significant contributions to the history and development of Afro American Cultures." Important phrase is "Afro American CULTURES" not the research and writing of Afro American HISTORY. |

Hi Sis - Ok you could be right - what I wrote is what I took it to mean. I'd agree that meaning a contribution to the culture itself is nonsense. Davie |

Austin - Thank you. At least you see that you can't just drop it if someone has expressed an offense. I understand what you mean now. It's good to know that some people listens to each other and can come to a mutual understanding. This could cause less wars. (Vote for Kerry) |

Welcome, Austin! I'm relatively new here myself. You obviously meant no harm and everyone appreciates your apology and explanation. And then Sis said thank you so we're moving on! Sis, you're so right about the listening and understanding, can you imagine a world where everyone would do this? Now there's a goal! Oldies aka Fan |
