When thinking about singers, I have always been enthralled by artists who do not need musical accompaniment. They can belt out a tune with or without any instruments, and you would not miss the musical accompaniment at all. Some of my favorites are: Billy Paul Bunny Sigler Aretha Franklin Timothy Wilson |

I agree with all the above. ...and I know there are many more...especially most of the real soul singers. Vonnie, thanks soo much for pointing this out. Sometimes music, is what makes the artist sounds better than how they really sound. I prefer to hear a singer sing in person. Most of the time, when you hear them in person, you have an idea how they would sound without music...(just as long as they aren't mouth movers). Since there are so many machines, that can make a person sound like Peabo Bryson, when actually thay couldn't carry a tune in an envelope. I believe there was a movie some time ago, that showed a lot about the machine singers. It was called "That's The Way Of The World" with EWF. Did anyone here see that movie? |

I recently listened to Roberta Flack's "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" for the first time in a long time. Her voice just comes through so clear and true. Almost no instrumental accompanyment at all. You gotta have serious vocal chops to pull of an arrangement like that a have your voice carry the song alone. I'm glad I listened to that cut, because I had almost forgotten what an amazing voice Roberta has. |

Agreed wonderful choices, Mr. Paul is simply fantastic, heres a few more: Walter Jackson Luther Vandross Ann Nesby Eddie Levert Persuasions Take 6 Now there are a heck of a lot more but these came to mind immediately. Now since I dont get to talk about this much, but The most beautiful recording I've heard in a many years was the acapella version of "Some Enchanted Evening" by the Temptations, it just dont get better than that. :-) Kdub (Message edited by Paladin on October 14, 2004) |
