All, LOL! We all know there are hundreds of group names. Back in the day - did the name of a group help or hurt them - or neither? What are your favorite group names? Which ones are the most intriguing? And which ones hould have been changed to something else? LOL! Eventually - I suppose it got quite hard to think of a name to call one's group. LOL! I love these. 1. Temptations 2. Miracles 3. Supremes 4. Midnight Star 5. Enchantment 6. Chilites 7. Impressions 8. Whispers |

Bar-Kays The Dazz Band Temptations Marvelettes The Teen Queens (anyone, what song did they make?) The Drifters The Platters The Shirelles (so cute!) I have to agree with Manny's two choices for the reasons he stated... (Message edited by leeway on October 12, 2004) |

All, Good ones y'all. Kev-Lo - I started to say the Manhattans. Good one. And I also love the other ones you mentioned - and especially "Blue Magic." The Artistics. Who are they? |

I think The Temptations and The Supremes are the best names. In analyzing the other favored names I found limitations. Whispers is a weak word and very limiting. DO they ever sing loud or vary their tone? Some names are too cute, too adorable. "Miracles" does not suggest anything positive about music. Is it a miracle they can sing? Is it a miracle they were successful? But after I've said all that I think of Bing Crosby and his success: way more #1 hits than anyone else; more recorded songs than anyone else; and more everything (do you really want me to list the credits?). And what kind of name is "Bing"? Did it help him to be the world's most successful pop star? Well, probably more than "Harry" would have. Maybe the question should be: Is there a group whose name you love but whose music you hate? Or vice versa? |

Hi Morgan; The 'Teen Queens' are from the 50's they had a big hit with "Eddie My Love". Hey Go Go! The 'Artistics' made "I'm Gonna Miss You", a dynamite song in the 60's. S.S. |

Robb K. Very inventive names you listed!! Thank you Soul Sister, I can remember seeing their name (The Teen Queens) on a television commercial advertising songs from the 50's. I never knew what they sang, I just like the name. |

All, Now that I think about "Blue Magic" - and because janesbe got me to thinking - how would they have fared as "Black Magic?" LOL! Blue - is associated w/one feeling down. LOL! I love the group though. Thanks SS. I think I remember that hit by the Artistics now. Can you hum a few bars? LOL! I suppose some name changes were a good move. Some might not have become big with other names. What about Cher's real name? |
