Robb K, it was also done by the great Paul Williams and The Tempts ....he smokes the song my friend. Its on the re-release of the Tempts CD Get Ready.

Iris, I beleieve What Love Has Joined together was on the B side of Its Growing. I had some difficult choices to make. Plus The records I listed were very special to me and touched off a series of memories like no others. Thanks for the compliment, you know you're one of my favorite people. I also love the way Smokey did the song with Claudette and the Miracles on the LP What Love has Joined.....;-) Man, Claudette was beautiful on that cover.....she had that Look of Love in her eye......whew!!!!!

Jimmy Mack, I was so outdone by your thread that I started writing and couldn't stop. Hell I left out my girlfriend Gladys Knight and that is blasphemy. She, like no other Motown female artist could sing "Pollywallydooodleallday" and I'd break out in a cold sweat. I hope she forgives me....please add these gems.....

Everybody Needs Love
I Heard It Through The Grapevine
Giving Up
I Dont wanna do wrong
Daddy Could Swear

Jimmy Mack....Motown was incredible, upon reflection its probably one of the reasons that I participate so actively at this site. Motown in its day was simply ...Pure Pleasure. I dont think that Motown (read BG/Cholly Atkins and all the writers, singers and support folk) get enough credit for their manifestation of James Brown's song "Say it Loud, I'm black and I'm proud ! Hell James sung it but every time I saw the Tempts, Tops, Miracles and Supremes...et al....I was actually watching his lyrics come to life....they were not pimps, hustlers or hookers, they were beautiful and I was dam proud of them....still am.

Kdubya

PS......before I go, let me add this, most of what my kids and their kids see today on BET/MTV is not something I'm proud of... a lot of times I feel ashamed, we have all commented on this before but I wanted to make myself clear. I aint fond of no dam minstrel show.

Morgan, the Originals also made:

We Can Make It baby ( This record like Baby I'm For Real & The Bells)
has Marvin Gaye written all over them, he was experimenting with his layered and multiple vocal harmonys with this group long before he did them himself, listen closely and you'd swear he was singing in the background......he probably was ...LOL.........plus here are a few more notables from them :

God Bless Whoever Sent You
Dont Change Me Now (you may not like the change)
Down To Love Town (disco)
