I have always wondered what exactly did the different members of the Intruders do after they broke up. Several biographies state what some did, such as becoming truck drivers, business men, politicians, and 2 becoming Jehovah Witness, but they never mention exactly who did what? And also, why did Little Sonny leave in 1970 and return in 1973? And is there a possiblity that we can get Phil Terry back on the forum again?

The Intruders were one of my all time favorite Groups. I remember hearing something about.... (I think it was Little Sonny) committing Suicide.
I loved his lazy singing style...(swee~eeet)
They had a lot of very nice songs.
Back In The Day, some of my favorite Intruder songs were:
Together
Cowboys To Girls
We've Gotta Love That's Real
Love Is Just Like A Baseball Game
When We Get Married
Sad Girl
Friends No More
(Just to name a few)
Now my Boyfriend and I always slow danced to
their song "Slow Drag"
Sorry I got carried away, but I'm sure someone here on SDF will fill you in or their present status.

I always wondered what happened to the remaining members of the Intruders. I was told that there were no surviving members of the original lineup.(Bird,Big Sonny and the other gentleman who's name I can't think of at the moment)
Three of my favorites that commercial radio don't play are "Bet He Don't Love You(Like I Love You","My Baby She's a Winner",and "Who's Your Favorite Canidate") The last one is perfect, since election time is coming. :-)

Hey Ya' All;
I loved Little Sonny's unique voice, it has been describred by some in the industry as a nasal voice, hey, it works, lol!!
Back in 1966 I was with the show at the Howard where the Intruders were performing with Percy Sledge, Howard Tate, Sad Sam, and others, this is when the Intruders had a big hit with "United". We rode in the Intruders' station wagon from the Pitt to the Howard, had some good laughs. I was very saddened to hear of the way Little Sonny's life ended, so tragic.
They were an awesome group!! Loved:
*United
*Sad Girl
*What's Your Name
Friends No More
*Together
When We Get Married
Cowboys To Girls
Love Is Like A Baseball Game
*=my most faves!!:-)

If memory serves me correctly, Little Sonny left to get married. Bobby Starr took his place during that time. Bobby surely can tell you more about this one!

Hello Submarine to all, soulful friends!

I'm glad to see how one of my all-time vocal groups favorites it's so apreciated here in SDF.

I totally agree with Soul Sister, Little Sonny had a unique voice and also a unique way of singing: seems as he cry and also as he speak. I only find a little resemblance with some moments in some songs by another great little: Little Anthony.

I got their "Super Hits" album with all their 60's hits ("Gonna Be Strong" is my fave) and also "Save The Children" and "Energy Of Love". After this i only find a compilation of various artists in UK Old Gold that features "Who Do You Love" by another lineup of The Intruders (only a original member). Also I knows Phil Terry keep on working as songwriter after the group disbanded.

These are my Intruder's top-five:
-Gonna Be Strong
-Check Yourself
-She's A Winner
-Save The Children
-Hang On In There

Great Little Sonny, RIP

I posted this before, I believe, but one of my secret desires is to record a duet with Sonny and Barbara Mason, who also has that same lazy quality to her style.
It would, of course have to be produced, posthumously and digitally, a'la Natalie and Nat doing Unforgettable.
I would add Barbara to the Intruder's multitrack copies of Together and United.

I remember that song, it was one of my favorites of their "minor hits." Mikki Farrow co-wrote it with Gamble & Huff. And while we're at it, how about "Who's Your Favorite Candidate", "I'm Girl Scoutin'", "Turn The Hands Of Time" and their version of "Call Me" from the "Cowboys To Girls" LP.

Bobby Starr did a great impersonation on I'm Girl Scoutin'. That was one of my favorite songs by The Intruders. It wasn't until many years later that I learned that it wasn't sung by Little Sonny. Bobby Starr is the only Intruder from that era who still sings with the group. There's not one original member left.

Save the Children is just about my favourite Intruders track...a fabulous "typical" Philly arrangement by Lenny Pakula...it just flows for seven minutes.

Hello again, soulful brothers & sisters!

One time i saw a LP (or a maxi?) in a store titled "Mother & Child Reunion" by the Intruders. I remember the PIR logo and i believe one tune was "Save The Children" and only have two songs and a long message by Kenny Gamble in the back cover. The cover art was a package as a present. I have previously the "Save The Children" LP. My doubt is if i don't well remember and really was a LP.

Also I remember one of my first singles was "A Nice Girl Like You" / "To Be Happy Is A Real Thing" (this second very classically in the strings intro!).

Nosey,

Do you remember when Little Sonny and the guys used to hang out at Big Jimmy's Barber Shop on Ridge Avenue? My favorite songs were, "Cowboys To Girls" and "I Wanna Know Your Name". I would also run into Little Sonny at the horse stables, we both loved to ride:-). I sure miss those guys.:-(

Yeah, I remember Big Jimmy's "barber shop". Heard you could play your number's and other things there. LOL! I pass it everyday going and leaving work but alas it is no longer there but a facility called Calcutta House. I remember when scenes from the movie the "Lost Man" was filmed in and around Big Jimmy's. btw, they are filming a movie at my job called "Annapolis" starring Tyrese and they are supposed to let us know who else is in it today. It's a Disney movie. Your old neighborhood was quite the place to be.

Well Vonnie, on the Album I have, it shows the Intruders. One of them sitting in the Barber chair, and the rest of the Group surrounding...there are folks in the background, and a guy that appears to be a Barber
It's a bit tiny, but this may give you an idea:

Can't see the Guys in the background, pic is too small, and too dark.but I tried.

Hello Submarine again, soulful family!

Hey, dear soulful ladys Vonnie, Medusa, Nosey and Soul Sister,

In my spanish CBS-PIR "Super Hits" album appears this pick and also, in the back cover, the same pick in biggest size. The people in the background it's hard to recognize. Also there are some sympathic details as some portrait of childrens in the barber's table (his sons?). I don't got the vynils here (only the CD's) but I believe the linner notes in the back-cover was write by Georgie Woods who says "Little Sonny, Eugene Daughtry, Big Sonny and Sam (?), these are my favorite intruders (...)". And the text about the photo: "The Intruders at they favorite barber's shop".
I have had previously in cassette and give it as a present to a girlfriend called Eva, adding the text "featuring Little Eva" bellow the name of The Intruders.
One of my indispensable albums!

Hey, Mike S,
pardon-me for not response you before (I can't connect so frequently as usually the last days). Thanks for your info about the "Save The Children" album. Yes, i got this album but I referred to another with a pick of a package in the cover entitled "Mother & Child Reunion" wich I don't knows if were a maxi or a LP. This was in the same store where I buy "Save The Children" and "Energy Of Love", both pressed in Holland (perhaps the album I refered was only issue in Holland, ?).

Hello, Nosey,

I'm feel flattered by a comment like that by a philadelphian true soulful woman. Thanks.

Thanks also to Soul Sister for your sympathy (as allways).

Hey, dear Mr. Weldon,
Phil Terry co-write two of my all-time PIR favorites: "No Staying Kind" (Lou Rawls) and "How Good Is Your Game" (Billy Paul). Long live to this survivor of the great Intruders!
