Juice, I know how much you love this man, and his funkiness, so this one IS(because he lives!) for you, and those who feel as you do, that Mr. Al Jackson is one of the shining jewels in the crown of R&B drumming...

Excellent find. I'll pass this on to my students. Mr. Jackson was one the finest "pocket" drummers you'll ever hear. His work at Stax and with Al Green are models for solid grooves and good taste. Thanks for the link.

Thanks for the link, Isaiah. I love this cat's work, his ability to lock into a groove was amazing. My favorite Al Jackson cut is "Tramp" by Otis and Carla; I don't think he does a single fill on that entire track, but it is an incredible demonstration of his sense of timing and rhythm. Any young drummer who is looking for someone to emulate should really check out Al Jackson Jr. very closely.

David Porter's "The Masquerade Is Over" is another great AL Jackson classic.

Being a Booker T & the MG's fan,I'm glad to see Al get some props. I'm going to throw this into the mix. Does anyone on this forum think that Booker & the MG'S had any comparasion to the Meters? The reason why I asked this is because, both groups consisted on four members, and they both played some of most funkiest instrumentals during their heyday.
Now I know the Meters had some vocals in some of their songs, but if you listen at their instrumentals, they were badd.
I also know that both groups came from different parts of the South.(Booker T & the MG'S {Memphis} The Meters {New Orleans} )
Don't get me wrong,I love both groups and each individual musicianship, but I just thought I asked and see what you think.

What's up everyone!

Yes Isaiah, I apreciate the link. Thank you for thinking of me there!!! Even when I consider what I have read about Al, it still seems as though he doesn't receive enough. His work with the superb team of Memphis soulsters, Lewis Steinberg, Duck Dunn & Steve Cropper was just off the hook. What a team & what a drummer!

He then hooked up with Willie Mitchell & Hi & gave us all of those great grooves by Al Green, Ann Peebles, O.V. Wright & Syl Johnson. Al had one hell of a sweet touch on the kit & man, is he ever missed!

It's completely unfathomable to me that a man as well known & famous, could be murdered in cold blood in his own town. I don't know if they ever apprehended his murderer. If they did, they should skin the murdering bastard & use his skin for the drum. Preferably, he'd be skinned alive & I'd like to help them too!

The grill's lit, the flame's hot, my Ginzu's sharp & if it were up to me, his ass would be shark bait, or served as an exotic delicacy for a tribe of cannibals......Free of charge, courtesy of Juice's Meats & Treats!!!

I didn't come across as being just a little too angry here, did I?
