Hi this Kev-Lo you know the soul era of the 60's was full of many great love songs that were soulful and inspirational and captured our lives in many ways. They spoke about love between man and woman and they spoke about love for all man kind. One of my all time favorites love songs was I'M SO PROUD,When the Impressions did it back in 1964 it added a certain spice for soul music and it was indeed a masterpiece. Then in 1970 New York's own Main Ingredient added their superb and soulful taste to it and again it was a masterpiece done by them.Which version did you SD's like better or can you really compare the two versions |

They All were great, including the version performed by the Isley Bros. (Trubute CD). "I'm So Proud" is a beautiful song. Anyone who performs it with style & soul, will do a good job...as long as they don't change it too much. |

Both are great versions. Curtis' own version is gentle and reflective, The Main Ingredients's smooth and sweet. Think the later one just gets my vote...but little in it. Donald MacPherson had such a fine voice... and the group's harmonies were always special. Credit to them for taking on and making such a worthy attempt of the song. |

Can't beat Curtis, no way, no how! No disrespect to the Main Ingredient, Todd Rundgren, Deniece Williams, or anyone else who may have cut this tune, but the Impressions win the battle. Best, Mark |

I love the Main IngredienT, but my vote is going with The Impressions. Their version has the same affect on me as "Your Precious Love' effectivley bringing tears to my eyes now just as they did many years ago! peace, Iris BTW, one of my favoites is "Gypsy Woman' did Curtis write that and does anyone know if there is a story behind the lyrics? Gotta go with The Impressions. It sounds more honest & less slicker than the Main Ingredients' version. The Main Ingredient version is excellent, but it comes across as an imitation. The Impressions version is simply perfectly sublime! |

I dug both The Impressions and The Main Ingredient groove on this wonderful song! Peace, Byron Woods |
