What's up with this bass/saxophone combination? Gerald Albright does the same thing.

1wicked, would you happen to know who else was on that session? Was Joe Sample there as well?

Sandra Crouch sister of Andre Crouch played
tamborine. Gene Pello played drums.

Sandra Crouch? Wow small world. A friend of mine sang with her on some of her Gospel work.

Unfortunately, I don't think you can search the old forum. But I seem to remember Deke Richards describing those sessions.

Wilton Felder was interviewed and help transcribe "I Want You Back" in Bass Player magazine around '97. He said Freddie Perrin wrote out the bass part and he added some of the fills if I remember correctly.

Chancellor,

Is that correct? Gene Pello is the drummer? I've always wanted to know who that was and never seen his name listed anywhere. I used to LOVE the sound of his crash cymbal on those J-5 records. Thanks for the tip. I'll have to find out more about him (maybe he'll sell me that crash cymbal :-) )

Hey Chi,
Yes it's true. Gene Pello was the main drummer
for the J-5.

Peace,

You know, I thought it was Bob Babbitt on the bass on I WANT YOU BACK. Maybe he was on other J-5 sessions?
