JIM CHEERS AND I WENT TO THE STATE THEATER LAST NIGHT TO SEE OLLIE WOODSON, WHAT A SHOW, I MEAN IT WAS GREAT. THE OPENING ACT WAS A REAL FUNNY COMEDIAN, WE GOT THERE TO LATE TO HEAR WHO HE WAS BUT HE WAS FUNNY AS HELL. LITTLE JIMMY SCOTT AND HARLEY BROWN CAME ON NEXT, THEY WERE SLAMMING AND THEN THEY BROUGHT ON THE GREAT EDDIE LAVERT TO SING WITH THEM, WOW, HE HAD ALL THE WOMEN SCREAMING, THE THREE OF THEM TORE IT UP ON AN OJAY SONG, "FOREVER MINE" OLLIE CLOSED THE SHOW, HE WAS AWSOME. HE WAS JOINED ON STAGE BY ACTORS, LEON (FIVE HEARTBEATS AND HE ALSO PLAYED DAVID RUFFIN IN THE TEMTATIONS STORY) AND MIGUEL NUNEZ ( JUWANNA MAN AND MANY OTHER ROLES) IT WAS GREAT. OLLIE ALSO SANG ONE OF MY FAVORITES FROM HIS CD, HIS VERSION OF THE SHIRRELLS SONG, "WILL YOU STILL LOVE ME TOMMORROW" AND BROUGHT THE HOUSE DOWN. THAT'S MY BOY, AND A DEAR FRIEND. GO HEAD OLLIE, WORK YOUR SHOW, YOU KNOW HOW. ALSO THE FANTASTIC, THE BEAUTIFUL, THE WONDERFUL SIS DETROIT WAS IN THE HOUSE, WE HAD A GREAT TIME |

DMeikle - Wow, that is a great photo. It certainly brings back exciting memories. You should have been there last night. I was all over the place. My legs ache right now because of all the walking back and forth I did. People were dancing on the dance floor which was in front of the stage. I put aside my age-stiffness-and pride, and got up to the very front of the stage, and screamed just like the rest of them. Ali took my hand and sang to me. (Reminds me of the Temptations fans. ) It was fun. Brought back the 20Grand days. Spyder - Big Fun! I almost didn't go. But, then again, how many times does Ali Woodson give a party in Detroit. I'm on my way to pick up the photos, and I will post a couple of them here. Be back in a few. |

(I wrote a long review and lost it.) Spyder - You were correct about that camera. The pictures did not come out. First the bad news. Shots that did not come out: Ali and Leon singing Leon and I Ali, Mr. W, and I Ali, Spyder, Jim Spyder, Jim, Eddie Lavert Ali, Tonya Spyder, Jim, I The good news is: The State theater has been transformed into a theater with a club setting with a small dance floor. Eddie Lavert tore up the song, as Spyder has already mentioned. Everyone knows Eddie is a soul man and the ladies were screaming, ran out up against the rail, and reached for him. He was great, and so was Harley, and Detroit Jimmy Scott. As usual, I'm not going to tell you how great the bass player is. Ali sang "Walk Away From Love;" His singing of "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" sounds much better live than it does on the CD. He loves to sing, putting his whole self into those songs, and every song he sang was superb. He sang a couple songs from the cd: he sang "Stay" but his rendition didn't not remind me of the Temptations. It took me awhile to realize that it was that much talked about song "Stay." He made it his own. Of course he sang "Treat Her Like A Lady." For those who were stiff and do not usually dance, they moved with soul as Ali poured out all of his soul and grit. When Ali came back the second time, we just couldn't hold back, and fans went directly up to the stage, including myself. I cannot remember the song he was singing as he held my hand. I was in heaven. After he finished singing, he through his towel out to me, and I kept it around my neck the rest of the night. As a matter of fact, I had it around my neck when the photo was taken of us that didn't come out. So, do I save it like Monica Lewisky saved her dress? I guess I should. Leon was standing down with the fans as Ali was singing. Leon looks much younger in person. I commended him on his acting ability in the role of Druffin, and let him know that Druffin was one of my favorite soloist. He shook his head in the affirmative, and pointing to Ali he said "And now he is the baddist soul singer out there." I agreed, and went on to watch and listen to that fine sexy Mr. Ali-Ollie Woodson. After the show, we had a great time, greeting, chatting, hugs, pictures (that didn't come out), and meeting new and old aquaintences. This photo of a young man, you probably know his name. I don't know his name, I just know his face. The ladies were screaming for him as he entered the auditorium. I didn't know who he was until he put his hat on: ALI'S BACKGROUND VOCALS (Message edited by sis on September 25, 2004) |

Karyl - Thanks for your post. I'm beginning to feel like the lone ranger over here. The name of the guy in the first photo is Miguel Nunez. He is here, along with Leon and others in a play at the Fox Theater. http://www.ericjeromedickey.co m/ |

Soul Sister - I gave Eddie a hug just for you. Eddie comes to Detroit often, as he is a friend of Harley Brown. Nosey - I'm wondering if Ali knows how sexy he looks. I think he probably does. One thing, he knows he can jam. DMeikle - Before Ali's performance, I was talking with him. We discussed you and Harry. He remembers meeting you two. He was telling me how fantastic Mr. W is on the bass. I let him know that Mr. W was happy to have been playing for him doing the songs he chose to sing that night, and that you and Harry had a grand time. ((((HARRY)))) |

Ali Woodson, one of my favorite Temptations. He knew everything he needed to from jump, that Blue Notes song, "Disco Explosion" certainly proves that. As a Temptations fan, I must admit I do feel remiss. I miss Ali. I like the other guys there but yet and still... |
