I seem to remember Jim Cheers making mention of him getting his start in the record industry with Ernest's set-up.
If Jim is still on here, could he expand on Ernest's companies set-up (record labels, distributorship, etc.) as I don't think this has been discussed in detail here (unless it was in the past and is no longer accessible via the search facility).

Hi Spyder, I wish I could have been there - I love Spencer's voice.

Ernest Kellly owned the Geneva label, which he started in New York.
The Soul-O-Sonic label was also one of his.

JSmith,
yes i did get my start in the industry with Ernest Kelly. He had a label called "INNERSOUL" that was located on James Cousins Near 7 Mile. It's also the Place that Al Perkins from WJLB would come after his morning shift and drink his morning coffee (can't remember if he put Jack Danials or Crown in it). Back then "Perk" and Ernest were silent partners. I worked there three months and then went to ARC JAY KAY dist's(Handlemanns),stayed there 6 month's and then went to CAPITOL RECORDS as a Regional which pissed Vivian Fant off to no end. Caused quite a stir.

Jim,
Thanks for your reply.
I believe Ernest's set-up was called InterSoul rather than Innersoul.
I think he was a New Yorker recruited to work in Detroit by Motown originally. He then teamed up with Johnny Griffith to run a label and then Jack Ashford with whom he helped run the Triple B label. He was still running labels in 1980 when he put out an LP by Eddie Parker.
Was the Soul-O-Sonic label Detroit based ??
However, I think his main line of business was as a record distributor around the Detroit / Michigan areas.
Jim, did you participate on any recording sessions for Ernest ?? (if so, details please: dates, cuts, etc).
Any more info anyone can provide on Ernest and his activities would be much appreciated.
