it was so good seeing frances on tv last night in a programme called the truth about diana ross.frances was talking about the days at motown giving her side of events i wonder if diana would ever see the programme when frances called her a bitch.even through frances only had one release on the soul label i thought it was good seeing a forgotten artist in the spot light again although many viewers over here would have said whos she never heard of her apart from us northern collectors (Message edited by hitsville chalky on September 20, 2004) |

I liked her CD on Motorcity. I've heard she won't even talk about that experience. I really like the hit from that CD, "Footsteps"....pretty cool! |

I saw the Diana Ross programme and was surprised to see Frances Nero commenting. Dave Meikle and i have met Frances several times and she dosn't bear any grudges about her time at Motown. She has some nice stories about her time in England during the Motorcity recordings. |

Must admit I was surprised to see Frances Nero really biting into Miss Ross in a very bitchy manner. The way she did it seemed bitter and vindictive rather than just passing comment on how she saw the situation. As if she had been passed over for Diana...We all know that Ms Ross hasn't always been sweetness and light, but it still didn't gain much respect for Frances. |

Hi Mike, I understand where you're coming from, but consider this: Ms Nero may have had to deal with some nonsense that we know nothing about. I recall reading that she got her Motown opportunity after winning a contest. As such, she may have been considered an interloper & treated as such. Perhaps if any of us had been in her shoes, we'd feel the same way & then some. Just a little food for thought! |

You are right Juice.I don't blame her if she has beefs. It was just the way she seemed to do it...I also wonder if she was put up (ie paid) to do it? |

Hey Mike, I kinda doubt it. There have been books that referred to her winning her contract with Motown. Considering the fact that many of Motowns' stars were homegrown & came up through the ranks, she likely was resented by those already there. Remember that it's been reported that some Motown artists were genuinely upset when relative newcomers like The Isleys had a hit song. If what I've read is true, Gladys Knight & The Pips, didn't receive the warmest of welcomes either. There was always someone who felt that they should have had the benefit of singing those hits. It seems that many at Motown just didn't cotton to newcomers. I didn't get to see that show, but I'm willing to believe she has merit. Regardless of what Ms Nero said, I get the feeling that she could have said a WHOLE lot more than she did. What gets lost is the fact that she was a teenager, who had a dream of a lifetime fulfilled. She won a contract with Motown. You can imagine the excitement that she felt. Imagine how she'd have felt to be treated with disdain by any of her heroes? I'd be crushed & more than a bit disillusioned. We all know that there was only room for ONE female star back then & we know things now, that we couldn't have imagined then. As such, I'm sure that she could say more, much more!! |

Good idea Roy...would be interested to know what Frances has got to say. A very good point you make about there being no one on the show talking about Diana..apart from her manager back in the 70s!! etc. They either didn't bother to do a lot of research or no one was interested. Looked like cheap TV to me. |

could be that Frances only was awarded a "singles" deal and that all she got was that one single. BTW, whay is it that only female artists want to be the "only one" and that male artists dont have the tendency for those kinds of petty situations as there is always room for both sexes. I always wiewed that kind of attitude as being petty and selfish. |

mike s - Frances hasn't seen the documentary. She wasn't told when it would be shown. She is wondering what they had her saying after it was edited, and laughed when I told her what she said. LOL I believe DMeikle mentioned this previously: Currently, Frances is working on a film, comedy musical, "Menegerie A-Fowl," going to Jacksonville, FL for casting in January 2005. Just in case anyone is interested in investing, 40% of the film will be available. Her email address is: frances@ameritech.net |
