The guys are continuing their musical mission down in Tennessee. I spoke with Bobby and they are really pumping up the volume and laying down the tracks. They were a little concerned that Hurricane Ivan would put a damper on their recording sessions, but thankfully they were spared. They are right on the river and the tides were quite high. The surroundings sound idyllic, they are at a house that is sitting high up on stilts overlooking the river. The house is on CatFish Lane, and I immediatly thought of the Four Tops singing "Catfish". They told me they will check in to the SD forum soon, to let you know how the project is progressing. |

I played 2 songs by them, on the "Blue Eyed Soul" show I did in August. Their funky instrumental "Fillet De Soul" and their big hit "Westbound # 9". I always wondered whatever happened to them. I'm gald to know they still making music. :-) |

Hi y'all!! Just a little update on our progress. We have been recording at Catfish Lane Studios in Savannah, Tennessee, on the banks of the beautiful Tennessee river.. The sessions are going just GREAT and a lot of surprises are in store. Jerry Plunk's vocal prowess is better than ever and the songs will amaze you. Today we are recording at Bennett House in Franklin, which is arguable the best studio in the Nashville area. It was formerly owned by producer Keith Thomas and is in a pre Civil War Victorian mansion and is just gorgeous and the sound is spectacular. The guys all say hi to the forum!! |

Well, Im back from a very successful two weeks of recording Flaming Ember down in Tennessee. So far, we have twelve songs "in the can" and we plan to record at least six more. All the songs sound great and Jerry's voice is better than ever! Jim Bugnell laid down some funky yet tasty bass parts that rival some of our faves, capice?? The Ember are back with a stack of hot wax(no pun intended) |

Having spent the past two weeks in Tennessee, made me really appreciate the fine art of our great country tunesmiths and the creative and meaningful country music videos which all have great substance and creative integrity. No booty shakin' hoochie mamas and iced out thugs there, just great stories put to creative visualization, and very tastefully done. BTW,the songwriter is king in Nashville, and they receive credits at the end of the videos along with the usual folks. |

Hey Juice, Its not like that at all. We yanks have a total misconception of what its all about, as the general atmosphere is quite "urbane" compared to what it used to be. |

I can pretty much agree with what Bobby is saying about country music scene and Nashville being more "urbane" than us Northerners give it credit. After DJing here at a country radio station I hear several songs that tell great stories and could easily adapt into any genre outside of country. Also, country music & songwriting has pretty much caught up with the modern times. For example the duo Big & Rich has a hit on the country charts with "Save A Horse (Ride A Cowboy)" that many young folks are requesting and with good reason - the song tells a story about being a "big baller" but it does so with taste (hell, they even use the term "bling-bling" in the song). Musically it's rooted in country but it has an urban hip-hop edge to it. This tune among others (Reba McIntyre's "Somebody" and "Live Like You Were Dying" by Tim McGraw) are examples of how Nashville has become more urbane than we give it credit. Kevin Goins - KevGo |

No, no, no!! I didn't mean it like that. What I mean is that Tennessee is steeped in Musical talent. The average person would be shocked at the sheer number of hits that has come out of Nashville. Hey, I just want some of that to rub off on me!! From what I know of Nashville music, they're true to the m usic & know how to spin a clever lyric that resonates with the everyday man. Their lyrics are usually honest & down to earth & unpretentious. And as you said Bobby, they have a great deal of respect for the songwriter & the craft of songwriting. There's nothing gimmicky about their writing, it's from the heart. This is one Yankee who couldn't write a decent song if you spotted him 3 chords, a hook & a bridge |

There's nothing that would thrill me more than to write a "country hit" of the magnitude of say, an Alan Jackson, with 30 number ones. |
