I LIKE TO DOWNLOAD MUSIC....AND I'VE BEEN USING KAZAA.....BUT I FIND THAT IT IS REALLY HARD TO FIND ALOT OF R&B MATERIAL AND WHEN I DO FIND THE ARTISTS I'M LOOKING FOR IT'S JUST THE MORE POPULAR SONGS THEY'VE MADE. DOES ANYONE KNOW OF ANY OTHER SITES WHERE I CAN FIND REALLY HARD TO GET OR EXTENDED SONG TITLES BY PRIMARILY R&B / SOUL ARTIST ?

Filetopia or Soulseek are very good programs for finding rare soul/r&b

I've had a lot of trouble getting Soulseek to work. For classic Soul, Filetopia seems to be the best. Winmx has a lot of music, but, files stay enqueued too long.

You need to try Soulseek again Juice! It's worth it. Filetopia is a sick joke compared to SS. The search engine sucks on Filetopia. :)

Top of pageBottom of page   By Juicefree20 (68.161.49.152) on Monday, April 05, 2004 - 09:39 pm:

Hey Rod!! I found that Filetopia works well once you join a particular channel. The only problem was that the files were usually the same ones continually. I had problems getting Soulseek to work with XP. I haven't been on either for quite awhile now, with the RIAA forcing ISPs to give up subscribers info. Maybe I'll check them out. Neither compare to Napster or Audio Galaxy. Those were the days.

What's up Juice. I started out years ago with Napster and moved on to Audio Galaxy then to Kazaa and now Soulseek. Out of them all Soulseek is one of the best IMO. I've read that the RIAA has decided to leave Soulseek users alone because new releases make up only a small fraction of what's being traded on that program. It's mainly used for rare Soul and Jazz from the 60's and 70's.

You're right about AudioGalaxy though. It was good but man I'm telling you Soulseek is good too. I can't begin to tell you how much rare stuff I've found on there! I tried Filetopia but the search engine sucked and I wasn't quite sure how to get the good stuff from the users in the rooms so I deleted the whole program off of my PC. I don't fell comfortable at all talking about this on this forum and I know that I've probably said way too much already! LOL. Just email me if you've got anymore questions man. :)

Hey Graham. Thanks for the link. I've been to that site before years ago and it's very nice. The only thing I didn't like was that Doris Willingham's 'You Can't Do That' is too short. LOL. It's one of my favorite 45's in my collection and I always look forward to that kickass vamp on the tail end of that record. (see the Nice Ends thread going now) For some reason it was cut sort when someone transferred it to mp3. :( It's too bad that the folks who frequent that site can't hear it because it's one of the best! But the site itself is still excellent. :)

If your looking for a link to some pretty groovy music, check out a local Detroit band that's really doin it to it called Bump @ http://www.bumpgroove.com/music.htm
You can also check out this music archive site called Etree that hosts a lot of music very similar to it @ http://www.archive.org/audio/etreelisting-browse.php

Kazaa Lite's good too. No ads, same search capabilities, a whole lot less BS.

Looks like nobody wants to touch this one so I will..

Why don't you consider buying the records just like 'back in the day' before stealing err.. I mean.. filesharing became popular?

I WOULD GLADLY BUY THE RECORDS OR TAPES OR CD'S IF THEY WERE AVAILABLE.....IT'S NOT NEW MUSIC I'M LOOKING FOR.....IT'S OLD 70's AND 80's STUFF THAT IS NO LONGER IN PRINT AND NOT AVAILABLE ON CD.....MUSIC SHARING IS NOT A RIPOFF....JUST PEOPLE WITH A MUTUAL HOBBY SHARING THEIR WARES....I ALSO GIVE MUSIC TO SHARE.....YOU SHOULD TRY IT.

Anti-ripoff,
There are many, many, web-sites that offer free dowmloads, Doo-Wop Cafe is one. As NY-DELL stated a lot of the old songs are not available anymore. Maybe you can inform us where to buy the CDs with the music we are looking for? Just my opinion.

G_Wiz - Yes, Lloyd is with the contemporary gospel group "The Emmanuels." They have released a CD, and have a fan club. Lloyd was to bring me a copy of their CD in exchange for a CD I put together of songs by Innervision, but he hasn't come over yet. Here is a link for his group. I plan to go to one of their shows in the near future.

Hey anti-ripoff, obviously you've never been here before. I've got an idea for you, why don't you get the licenses for the music that we want that whether you know it or not happens to be LONG OUT OF PRINT! If you can license the songs & put them out, you've got my money. I can't buy what isn't for sale. However, Thank you for your totally useless remark. You've helped edify all of us immensely with your statement. Obviously, we're looking for music that's out of print, that the record companies deem unworthy of re-release. It seems to me that you can't buy or steal something that's not commercially available for purchase. Write back when you can offer some real help!
As you have a problem with ...err...stealing, perhaps you can help some of those artists recoup some of their...err....ahh....ROYALTIES! Think that you can do that? Yeah, err, aah, I thought not. Get off your soapbox if you have no solutions for the problem. Err...Aaaah...
Peace!

Juice, your response to "anti ripoff" about summed up exactly how I feel about filesharing as well. Anti, I'm a music collector with a collection that includes over 500 LP's, about 700 78's, easily over 1000 45 rpm singles and countless CD's and tapes that I PAID FOR! I definitely don't have a problem paying for music IF IT'S AVAILABLE! We're not talking new music here, we're talkin' about RARE SOUL MUSIC from the 60's and 70's that is almost impossible to find and probably will never be re-released.

Why is it OK for music collectors to spend a fortune in record auctions, set sales and record stores for vinyl and bootleg CD's (all of which I did FOR YEARS) when the artists never see any of those royalties? But it's not OK for collectors to find exactly what they're looking for in the privacy of their own home FOR FREE? GIVE ME A BREAK!

Pogo, email me privately if you have any questions about Soulseek. I'll be glad to help.

By the way, how is this different from people taping off the radio & not purchasing records? I thought that there was a tax factored in the cost of Cassette tapes, CDs & certain electronic equipment, to compensate for this. Am I not remembering correctly?

G_WIZ - I wish I could hear some of those that didn't make it to the records. Lloyd could sing anything. He has a great voice. He said he normally does not sing lead with this new group, but just plays the piano. I guess you know he is the lead vocalist on the song "The Mighty Lover." Wheather the group is called "The Ideals" or "The Mighty Lovers." It is the same cut.
