Mike...
You are just blowing me away.
I have a question.
In one of the picture there is a gent named Billy T Scott.
Is he the same Billy T. Scott who sang with Taylor Dayne, and originally from North Jersey???
It sure does kind of look like him, and if so I am saddened that he passed.
I was supposed to record him for Atlantic in the early eighties.
By dvdmike (68.253.180.58) on Sunday, April 04, 2004 - 11:38 am: |
Yes Bobby, that's the same Billy T.. Tom Tom hired Billy T. to do some vocal arranging for a Japanese singer he was producing named Meiko Nakahara. Billy was pretty cool guy, fun to be around. He went on the road singing background for Stephanie Mills in the esrly '90s and passed away not too long after. I still think about him from time to time. He had a voice very similar to Luther Vandross.

Mike,
I just cannot believe that Billy is dead.
I have been thinking of him lately.
he was such a wonderful man and we had some fun times together.
He even sang on some gigs with me and sang on some recording sessions including the lead voice on a record I did for Locksmith, Grover W's band on Arista.
Had he been living in Chicago?
I had been tring to find him.
I am stunned!!!

No, he was living in Jersey. He flew in a few times when Tom Tom called him for sessions. How did he pass away? I never did really know.

Iwant to ask you this question. Was The PS Studios based here in our hometown. I seem to recall that Chicago based record companies and some of some major labels we're headquatered here. Then everything shut down which was sad to see Mike. I'll have more to add Mike once I get my
times, dates and facts together, ok. First I'll have to look over these great pics you post.

Nice pictures, Mike. I especially like the ones of you when you were around my age. Especially the ones of you as a baby. I can't believe that your great grandmother lived to be 97. I have a great grandmother (my grandfather's mother) who's going to be 95 or 96 years old in July. I don't really know. I hope that she lives to be 100. One of my grandmother's friends has a mother who lived to be over 100. I think by the time my great grandmother lives to be 100 (I hope) I'll be in college by then. Maybe.

Thanks...the only reason I ask is he had a thing for my ex's daughter in the early 90's. They both were going to school in Roswell/Atlanta area but it may have been a different son of Curtis'.

All I can say is...AMAZING, AMAZING, AMAZING!!!!!
Thanx a million, DVDMike for sharing all of your memories with us at SDF. I was kinda disappointed at first when some of the pix I could'nt see because of the thumbnail, but as many times before, I would sit in front of the computer just be playing around with it. I clicked the mouse (the right button) to see if anyway I could open up the thumbnails and lo and behold! I clicked on "show picture" and there it was! Then it automatically open the other thumbnails as I continued to scroll down one by one. See, with a little persistence and patience it really payed off for me as I saw your gems come alive before my eyes! Your pix of your late grandmother brought back memories of my grandma Margaret (she died the age of 72 on 11/1/82). Whatever you do, please don't lose those pictures! They are a very important part of your history, but I think you know that already! Again, thanks a bunch.
p.s.: I got to go 2 Chi-town b4 God calls me home! Is the Bud Billiken parade still an annual event? That's sounds like the place to be for a good time!

Anyone who gets WGN can see it. It's always the second to last Saturday in August. The Bud Billiken Parade has been taking place for more than 70 years and is the largest African American parade in the world. The parade goes down Martin Luther King Drive from 35th Street to 51st Street and into Washington Park where the Bud Billiken picnic also takes place. The surrounding neighborhood is known as Bronzeville, Chicago's equivalent to Harlem, but smaller.

Amazing shots, my brother.

Thank you for making your pictures a reasonable size. You have a wonderful and extensive story to tell, and you have done it well.
Another giant on this thread posted a bunch of tiny pictures after he actually called me up to ask my advise on how to adjust the size of the pictures. Alas, he posted a huge bunch of tiny pictures with great pride.
At least you didn't fall into this image size trap!
Paul Riser was a wonderful person, and I hope he still is.
I used to see him all the time at the old original Hitsville building back in 1961-62. Never has a more elegant, polite, intelligent, and likeable person ever crossed my path.
Thank you for the pictures of Paul Riser. All the rest were of strangers.

Well, prior to two weeks ago, I had never scanned photos and sent them to a website. It took a minute to figure it out, but I think I've got it pretty much down pat now. The size limit is 50 KB, but that doesn't mean you have to post at 50 KB. I saw that between 20 and 25 KB is sufficient.

Great photos. Does anybody have any studio/concert pictures of the NYC background/session vocal crew - ie. Tawatha, Brenda White-King, Yvonne Lewis, Michelle Cobbs, Fonzi Thornton, Robin Clark, Cindy Mizelle, Paulette McWilliams, Curtis King, Philip Ballou, Lisa Fischer, Cissy Houston, Audrey Wheeler, the list is endless...be nice to see the faces behind those sweet & soulful vocal harmonies...
