I have been busy and am pleased to announce that the 'new and improved' SoulfulDetroit.com forum has been created. You are invited to try it out and, more importantly, to register your forum name. Click the FORUM link in the menu panel at the left.

Registration will be required in this forum, so you are hereby requested and required to register now in preparation for the transition. It only takes a couple of minutes. After you do so you will be able to practice posting on the new forum.

Registration will offer you the benefit of being able to instantly edit, delete or print your posts [up to 24 hours after posting.] Picture posting is also greatly simplified.

Registration will greatly ease our management of the forum and, in particular, allow the moderators to easily and quickly deal with the occasional troublemaking trolls who, at the moment, are able to fly in to our forum unimpeded and spread their venom.

So don't be shy, jump in, sign up and get used to it because this forum will be sealed from further posting in a few days. You will still be able to access this forum for the purpose of searching old posts, but no further posting will be allow.

Should be dull,unchallenging and,apparently,all that the originators of this(thus far) interesting Site want.
The expansion into contemporary and,occasionally,interesting topics of Race/Discrimination --- mainly originated by Zeke/Isiaiah and mainly lauded by numbskulls who were impressed by a couple of coherent sentences on behalf of their skin-colour or post 1964 American history --- will be missed......or blanded-out by the new regime.
It's about time this Site reverted completely to its oft mentioned aim.....promote a bygone era....dwell on the past.....cry out to a (now) censored audience of how great it all was 'back in the day'.....occasionally seek recognition for a musician of no great consequence.....slap each other on the back in their appreciation of simplistic (but truly,truly great) music of a bygone era - whilst having cloth ears to current music that CANNOT have the same social significance-but is musically better than its originatingf sources........
What more can I say.......this Forum has seen its best days and contributions.......

Des, I can only hope that you're wrong. Many of thes discussions, while infuriating some, have indeed enlightened others. The give & take has actually helped aid in some understanding. I can see the difference in the attitudes of various posters, who have had a different perspective explained to them. Sure, there are the diehards who will argue if you tell them that the sky is Blue. However, if the information shared here had an impact on even 10 mpeoples' thoughts, it's a start. Let's hope that the civil discourses continue.

....this is esentially the same system that DetroitYes uses, and although it slowed things down for a little bit, it didn't hurt either the character or the content of that forum at all. It's just as lively as it always has been. I don't see registration holding SD back at all. Frankly, I'm suprised it took so long.
Just wish Lowell had put in a spell checker. It's a good thing people can't hear my spelling errors on the air.

David...the new forum site looks good. Much sleeker and more functional. It will be interesting to watch how things shake out as you put it into full production, The new screen design will obviuosly take some getting used to, but I think people will like it better than the current one.

As for the tone and content of future posts, after user registration goes into effect, I guess we can wait and see. I agree with Douglasm, I'm also a member of DetroitYes, and I didn't notice any real change in the character of that forum when they implimented user registration.

I drove this man all around Detroit and Southfield like a free taxicab for two days last summer to help him do his job. Sent him the Johnnie Mae Matthews songs for his project, now I can't even get an email reply, let alone the cd I was supposed to get in exchange???!!!

A little voice told me to get compensation first, but I didn't listen. I'll use this as a business lesson for myself.

David shouldn't take everything so serious. Yesss, I was a bit upset, not being able to get on the New SDF...and when people get upset, they may say things, David...
No, I haven't tried the New Forum again, I'm tired of trying...yes, Lowell did try to help, and I appreciate that very much Lowell, but it didn't do any good.
Again, glad to see you all and this Old Forum still alive for now.
I hope we can still keep in touch in the future.

I just read what Des posted (LOL)..and all I can say is, "Music" is about race relations, religion, romance, troubles, heart & headaches, so it all catches on at one time or another. Everyone don't have/share the same Blues, so in order for one to understand another, it must be spelled out...but I guess the New SDF wont have to deal with the (so called) numbskulls who lauded Zeke/Isaiah.
By the way, even the New SDF will be infiltrated somehow, "without" Zeke and "without" the so called numbskulls that lauded him.
...and David, you wonder why I made the original statement that I made. Des, basically confirmed it.
..and I have yet to read where you chestized Des, for his statements...

Hi Medusa. I for one miss Isaiahs posts. Whether you agree with him or disagree with him, he makes you think. We've had more than a few threads that sprung up due to on Isaiahs posts. I think that some of us have gotten to know & understand one another due to posts started by Isaiah. I hope that he will continue to visit & post, as he adds a different dimension. I'll have to ask him about that. Before I assume that Ralph, David or Lowell are going to try to censor us here, I'll give it a try. If anyone removes themselves from the forum because of fear of censorship, they have censored themselves. I saw a lot of people down the new forum before it had even begun. I don't think that was fair for anyone to do based on an assumption. I would suggest that everyone continue to do their thing & see what happens.

In fairness to all of the moderators here, have you been following some of the threads lately? Some of them have been way off the hook & far from civil. We had a thread honoring Edmund Sylvers & someone posted some very nasty remarks that were quite inappropriate for that thread. It turns out that Edmunds niece was reading the thread. Could you imagine how she must have felt reading that while reading posts that were meant to honor her uncle? Had it been me, I would have been pretty upset about it. From what I've been seeing lately, Isaiahs posts are saintly compared to what's going on. I can understand why some feel the need to have a semblance of control over some of the more vicious postings here. It's been way off the hook lately.

Nevertheless, this forum will only be as strong as the members. Likewise, the quality will be likewise. Lady Medusa, you are an asset to this forum & are a voice of reason. I feel that Isaiah is an asset as well. I hope that you will continue to do what you do best here & likewise with Isaiah. Somehow, I don't believe that there will be any wholesale censorship, except maybe for the slanderous & vicious posts.

Either way, it's good to see you here & I look forward to seeing you here again.

Most of my arguments/censorship on this forum have surrounded the dissing of people.

We will attempt to work towards a more consistant policy on the new forum but believe me reading every post has not been possible due to volumes.

I'm only reading this thread today because I just don't have the time.

ps. I was pleased to read what you had to say in para 2 as most of MY fracas on SD has come from attempting to stop the slandering of others.

Stonewall, we have the Robert West story ready. I have been the hold up as I need to finish the graphics and web layout, but getting this forum reorganized has been a huge time suck and distraction. I have had to support over 50 people in getting set up as well. And then I have the rest of my life and business to run, not mention the Discuss Detroit forum.

This is a volunteer effort and David and I get to it the best we can, so hang in there and expect something next week, now that the new forum is launched.
