April 3, 1969 Diana, Mary & Cindy performed at
the Orlando Sports Stadium, Orlando, Florida.
Their latest single at the time was "I'm Livin'
In Shame", although "The Composer" had just
been issued. This was their extensive tour as
it was already reported that Diana would be
leaving. It was a GREAT show! To everyone's
surprise Gladys Knight & The Pips, though not
advertised, were there! Also, Willie Tyler &
Lester. The Supremes wore long gold gowns
(which had also been worn on TV's Hollywood
Palace). These are the same gowns Mary, Cindy,
& Jean are wearing on the Supremes' first lp
without Diana--"Right On". Again, it was a
fabulous show.
Diane's mother was there as well as her two
little dogs which a few months later died at
a club from eating rat poison. Mary had a
couple of kittens.

That sounds like a great show. I never knew that Diana had two dogs nor that Mary had kittens. Too bad about Diane's puppies though.

Yes, Dinelle, the death of these two dogs caused
her to quit the club. I think it was the Latin
Casino or something like that in Cherry Hill,
NJ, I believe. A real popular nightspot. This
happened on opening night and she quit the club.
The place had all shows sold out for the two
week engagement. They had to shut down. It
was reported that they sued and it took a few
years to clear up. Maybe someone else remembers
the details better. I do remember one of the
dogs being a yorkie and the other was a maltise,
Lil Bits & Tiffany were the names of the dogs.

Randy:
I remember reading a couple items years ago about Diana's pets - it was at the Latin Casino where they died after ingesting rat poison.

The Latin Casino? I think that I saw a picture of Marvin and Tammi there. So was Esther Edwards and Tammi's father was there too.

It was this unfortunate incident with her dogs that Diana really took one of her very first public and well-publicized stands making it clear: "Don't 'F' with me fellas!" That NJ club inexcusably was negligent for having rat-killer poison accessible to domesticated pets. Bi the way, The Supremes backed Diana up 100% on this issue. Most everyone greatly admired and surely empathized with Diana after this little cruel tragedy for her putting "family before money". Anyone who's ever had a beloved pet knows that "They Are Family".

"Right On" Diana!

P.S. Yup, that was the name of the dogs: Lil' Bit and Tiffany. Hadn't heard those names in 30+ years.
