Looking as graceful and handsome as ever, Smokey
Robinson is on the cover of JET issue 4/5/04
promoting his new gospel lp (his first!), "Food
For The Spirit". Good article and some great
photos too. Love that Smokey!!!

Hello Randy,

I mentioned this in the 'Smokey' thread that he was on the cover. Oh well! He does look good though & his wife is a beauty.

Peace!

Sorry, Common--I guess I didn't read that thread.
But, yes, he looks great even though the photo
has been airbrushed, making him look flawless.
Oh well, it's Smokey; to me he IS just about
flawless.

LOL! Randy, you could tell it was airbrushed???? I gotta look at the cover again! LOL! I've always loved his eyes, though! They still sparkle! :)

Peace!

Also, in this issue of JET, "A Supreme Encounter"
on Mary Wilson (with photo) in Bangladesh as a
US State Dept. cultural ambassador singing/talking
to children at a UNICEF school.

Smokey is presenting a show on BBC Radio 2 starting Sunday on Marvin Gaye. The ads for the show sound saccharine.Smokey sounds shallow/insincere.The show on advertisement sounds like it'll be crap and superficial......no surprises there then.
No value to discussing the dark side of Marvin that made him interesting and challenging????
You betcha.......another whitewash that scratches the surface of a great musical performer.
At least there's a programme commissioned in UK as opposed to freak-all in the States.......or maybe someone can set me straight on that assertion.

Randy, why wouldn't Smokey have his pic airbrushed? You would if you were going to make the cover of JET wouldn't you?

I bought the Jet Magazine, and yes, he did grace the cover with his green eyes...
stillin the light.

It was no complaint from my end on the photo be-
ing airbrushed, Spookey. It is a similar photo
on the cover of his new lp.
And, yes, of course, I would!
:)
P.S. How'd he look at Motown 45 last night?

Alan Mercer shot this Jet cover and did a great job as always. Check out the up coming Etta James CD cover he shot as well, it's entilted "Blues To The Bone" and Etta is looking better than ever.

Which label is Smokey's new album on? Is he still with Motown?

Speaking of mag covers and Motown artists....

DIANA ROSS is beautifully on the new cover of ESSENCE Magazine -- with her middle daughter Tracee -- with the subtitle: "Mother & Daughter: Love Can Get U Through Anything". (Good title for a song: "Love Can Get U Thru Anything".) It's a great, close-up pic and Diana has been on some of the entertainment shows such as "Access Hollywood" to promote it. Great photos inside, too.
