"I can't go on" is such a thouroughly "nice" record, lovely simple arrangement and about a million key changes.

"Ooh Baby" does it best for me though.

I can't go on

Sheesh! Deon Jackson got slept on here in Philly. All we heard was "Love Makes The World Go Round" and maybe one other and that was it! Alas, I feel so cheated sometimes.

Sistah, Soul Sister,

"For Ladies Only"? -- that's discrimination..... and un-realistic! So, who's the hot dude with the skin-tight pants and sho 'nuff lookin' like he's so fine, as in one that makes the world go round?

STONE WALL;

Cold Sister..... Bold Sister..... Soul Sister,

That's what I was thinkin' (and wishin' and hopin'). Deon is too much! Tell him to give me my album back! What is he doin' now? That #1 song of his is absolutelty timeless, as U know. Remember, Mary Wells did an album cut version, post-Motown on her "Two Sides Of MARY WELLS" album as "LMTWGR" was one of her favorite songs. Berry should have gotten Deon on Motown. No doubt, he tried!

Maybe after Miss Reeves is finished with her Euro tour -- U know where she is right now! (M-45) -- we can all get together for a nice soul dinner. Martha likes the old Pink Tea Cup in Greenwich Village. Besides, maybe Deon could tour w/ M.R.V. Sista, when the girlz played B.B. King's in Nov. (while Deon was doin' his 'photo spread'), that big place was sold-out!

Well, since U did me a solid with the "411", I'll do U one. Visit a very modest (and I mean it -- U oughta see the rest) "friend" of mine:
www.STONEWALLvets.org/photos/FarrellArmstrong.htm.

Bi the way, how do U get to that recent Nov. '03
"forum search archives".

"Love Makes The World Go 'Round",

STONEWALL

P.S. I still get a kick out that: "Ladies Only".
U are funny! U must be from Brooklyn (where I was born).

STONEWALL;
Deon, at our last conversation was living in the Chicago area raising his second family. I heard he was doing some club work locally singing standards, but can't confirm that part as I never personally asked him during our last phone conversation which was approximately five years ago.
To go to that thread: Click onto SEARCH FORUM than type in DEON JACKSON PHOTOS (1960's photos), click on November 2003 under that, then click 'search', and it should upload. You'll also find other photo sites I posted in November on Jimmy Scott, James Brown, Jackie Wilson, The Manhattans, etc... about a dozen of them.:)
No, I'm not from Brooklyn, I'm originally from New Jersey, across the Hudson. Just a hop, skip, & a jump (smile).
Take Care,
S.S.

Yes, S.S., sorry for my delay in rsvp but I have to tell U, I still can't find that "search forum". Do U mean on this SD website or on a search engine? When U get chance, plz. post exact direx. Thanx.

Also, visit The Sylvers file on this forum. See the nice and responsive message David put in response to my request to "86" an outrageously and inflamatory discrimination posting by someone else. Her diatribe was removed as in "Remove This Doubt".

I've mentioned Deon J. to a few people, so it reminded them to go buy his c.d. of greatest hits. It goes for "Russell and Mary and U and I...." (sic).

Re: M-45, U see what I (and most others) mean by that mixing of a non-legend, non-lead singer, non-Supreme with THEEE SUPREMES. Where was JEAN? SCHERRIE was right there in the audience -- along with her Soul Sister FREDA!

Glad U saw and enjoyed the "BERRY & BRENDA" pic!!

Look to hear back from ya on all of the above. I'll check here!

Once your on November 2003, its easy.
Good luck,

Bingo! Never knew what U were talkin' about w/ "Search Forum". Meanwhile, Deon, The Supremes, Jean, Mari, Cindy, The Vibrations, T-Hunt (I remember him) and Ambrose (I knew him)! Did U also know "Mr." Tommy Edwards?

I left U a msg. at SS's '60s pix, too.

P.S. What is the correct line in "LMTWGR" with the boys 'n' girls names for Deon's: "It goes for ___________ and ___________ and _____________ and __________ and U and I, now"?

Top of pageBottom of page   By STONEWALL (68.237.93.170) on Wednesday, April 07, 2004 - 05:19 pm:

Actually, that's "U and ME now".

SW;
There are a dozen different threads James Brown, Jackie Wilson, The Manhattans, The O'Jays, Jimmy Scott, etc... etc... for that month!

Deon: "That goes for Bobby & Marsha & Baby, You & I", if I remember correctly (smile).

Any messages for me SW, leave them here. I have to go out now, check you out later.

S.S. That is so ironic! Sonia was born in Brooklyn; lived in Manhattan -- just like me. Sonia was killed bi a speeding car bi a drunk driver in Florida when she went down to visit her parents - in 1988! No doubt U two knew each other. What year did the Wagon Wheel close, if U know?

When are U gonna call Deon to find out what he's up to?

Top of pageBottom of page   By Soul Sister (65.43.167.6) on Thursday, April 08, 2004 - 12:10 am:

SW;
I don't know when the "Wagon Wheel" closed but I hung out with Sammy there late 1965, alot in 1966, then off & on in '67 & '68. Sammy at one point lived near 8th. Avenue too, actually between 8th. & 9th. where he was sharing an apartment with a platonic friend, but I forget which block in the 40's not far from the club, which was on 45th. Street. I have a picture that Sammy took of myself in a white satin pants suit (Nehru Jacket) in front of the building's enterance. Do you remember the block near 8th. Sonja lived on? So very sorry to hear of her tragic passing.
Sincerely,
S.S.

Sonia Jane and I used to walk from her building on 8th Av. at 54 Street down to the W.W. at West 45 St. I know The Wheel was still open in 1969 -- year of The Stonewall Rebellion, as we were there.

Meanwhile, I just happened to read the M.L.K. file. Where was S.S. the day he was killed? In Brooklyn! Hello, Sista. U remember I had that Bklyn. vibe to U.

Sonia loved going to the music clubs. We also went to see D.R.S. at The Copa w/ Diana, Mary & Flo in 1965 and Diana, Mary & Cindy in 1967. Also, Tempts. Deon would have been A-1 for The Copa. Saw Freda there in 1971. Also, Edwin and the new Supes w/Jean.

U cheat-a U. Oh, yes, we did go to The Cheetah. And to Trude Heller's, and The Royal Box at The Americana. Saw Shirley Bassey, The Supremes, Dionne Warwick, et al. there!

Top of pageBottom of page   By STONEWALL (68.237.93.170) on Thursday, April 08, 2004 - 02:29 am:

And... "That goes for Bobby and Marsha", too! We all loved the enrtertainment clubs. "And, Baby, U and I" now.

Oh, Deon,, come back to NYC to do a show at, say, B.B. King's Nightclub!

Top of pageBottom of page   By mike s (195.93.34.12) on Wednesday, April 14, 2004 - 08:25 am:

Deon never signed as an artist with Motown,but I think Jobete picked up Love Makes the World go round and his other material (??)for publishing.
Did Mike Terry do the arrangements on his stuff?
What happened to his producer (and manager) Ollie McLaughlin who also worked with Barbara Lewis and The Capitols (Cool Jerk- alltime greatest dance record)?

Top of pageBottom of page   By Soul Sister (68.73.160.101) on Wednesday, April 14, 2004 - 10:38 am:

mike s;
Ollie passed away. Deon felt ripped-off by him as many artists got ripped-off by their managers 'back in the day'.

Oh, Soul Sista,

Check out the following files on the Good Forum:

* "Damita Jo" (and my compliment to U)

* "A.K.A." - so that U contribute your entries;
in your absence I even had to submit Little Anthony and Little Richard.

* "M-45" t.v. Special - I added pic of Diva REEVES

Let that author Ritzy, whom U had tea with today, go visit the historic, informative, interesting: www.STONEWALLvets.org/songsofStonewall-1.htm. He'll really learn! "It goes for Bobby and Marsha and...."

Top of pageBottom of page   By Robb_K (66.81.26.32) on Thursday, April 15, 2004 - 04:45 am:

Riley Hampton arranged Deon's cuts on Atlantic (Ollie McLaughlin brought him as well as Barbara Lewis, to Chicago to record). Dale Warren arranged most of Deon's early Carla cuts,-Mike Terry the others. Terry arranged the remainder of Deon's Carla songs.

"That goes for Bobby and Marsha, and Baby...." I luv those songs that list boys 'n' girls names like The RONETTES with "Walking In The Rain" and even THE SUPREMES' "Stop!" about "Scott and Mary" and "Flo she don't know (that the boy she loves is a Homeo...." Don'tcha just love it? Oh, and The Supremes' "Xmas Song" when DIANA says "Joy, Berry, Terry, Chico...." Or, TINA with Bold Sister, Soul Sister!! And, yesss, S.S., I'm a bit psychic -- except predicting that DIANA would partake in M-45. "Have U seen her" on the cover of the new ESSENCE? Honey, she is still Supreme!
