...if I see one more "top 5" thread on this forum, I am going to SCREAM :o)

...someone let me know when the "Top 5" invasion is over...

The Top 5 thing is not at all helpful.

And RK was bemoaning the fact that threads don't hang around too long!

No wonder.

I won't do something like this again. But I'm glad I did it, as I learned the names of some songs by my favourite Motown artists which I didn't know existed, and, apparently are of very good quality. It also gives me a much better idea of the musical taste of several regular SD posters.

ENOUGH OF THIS TOP FIVE CRAP ALREADY.
LETS MOVE ON
THANK YOU

Robb,

You are clogging up the "soulwaves" with this bs.
Please, enuf is enuf!!

Well, the various top5's encouraged me to dig out various Motown tracks to listen to...all day today...so I thank the posters for the inspiration.
Out of interest, why are they not helpful? Surely they're easy-to-join-in threads for new posters, and can bounce up other interesting snippets in the process. IMO.

Back to the back-biting and bitching...

Flynny ;-)

I know that The "Top 5" favorite songs of Motown artists and others is a wonderful, positive, fun and interesting feature of the Board. It brings back so many great memories, reminds U of song titles U may not have seen or heard in awhile and educates U about ones which U were not aware of. Thus, the evidence proves that the Top 5 serve many purposes -- all good. Bi the way, I observed that most of the same people who 'slag' about it, never miss an opportunity for participating in the "Top 5". Have we done Top 5 David Ruffin yet? And, then it's on to Eddie Kendricks and then.........

34 top 5 threads at the one time was not helpful.

...yeah, they could've at least spread'm out a little :o)

...kind of felt like being hit by a meteor shower, couldn't see anything else...

But since it didn't hurt anybody, wasn't offensive or full of bickering or pettiness, and actually kept with the title subject and purpose of the forum (a feat that I've noticed has grown increasingly difficult to accomplish around here lately), I didn't really mind it all THAT much...

Hey David, I thought that you were exaggerating a little when you said that there were 34 Top 5 topics started at the same time. I knew that there were a lot of them but I didn't think that there were that many. I counted them out and I'll be a monkey's uncle! You're right! There are 34 Top 5 topics! LOL. All I can say is DAMN! :)

Top of pageBottom of page   By David Meikle (81.130.211.124) on Tuesday, April 06, 2004 - 04:46 am:

Thanks for confirmation Rod.

Clearly it WAS a popular subject.

One or two a day, however, would allow all other threads to survive longer.

Addressed To All,
I think it's wrong and sad of you all to say that Robb K's Top 5's are clogging up this form. I haven't mentioned this in the Forum, but from the last months of january towards the months of feburary and a bit of march SD has been slow, and quite frankly boring. Don't get me wrong, yes I'll read the threads first and if I don't see something to post then I won't. Also I'm not putting down all the SD'ers that starts threads nor am I putting down their efforts to come up with an topic. Cause lately threads have become very much mindlesss & brainless to be honest. "If you clap your to a beat what song do you hear?"
That's a full of BS Non-Sense. Come on now. To Dave, I'm not putting you down neither but I've seen alot of good threads go so fast that alot of us (even if SD'ers won't admit it) don't get a hot second to give a response. Dave, remember a past thread that said (and I'm paraphazing) "Is SD the #1 site". If that be the case then alot SD poster's have been pretty PO'd at you, because I see what you don't see David. What is this from you all some sort of ego/power trip, as in the of a Gordy overthrow, huh. I see alot of Soul-Patrol people are seeing what's with this site, and believe me their probally to themselfs that their #1. I came from there, you know. To be honest SP alwats do non stop gets the breaking news and stories first and more celeb's famous or obscure. I usually cross back and forth but I don't post nothing there. If you we're to ask me if SD or SP is #1 my answer would be [?].

How about the "Top 5 to end all Top 5s" list? Then maybe the subject will be the final chapter in the SDF once and for all! Or until somebody comes up with a "Top 10" list and then......HERE WE GO AGAIN!

Top of pageBottom of page   By Rodmann (12.223.170.105) on Tuesday, April 06, 2004 - 05:31 pm:

Don, If you were suggesting that I was putting down Robb K then you are wrong. It's not my place to put down ANYONE for posting any sort of topic because this isn't my site! I was merely sharing a laugh with David because I thought that he was exaggerating about the number of Top 5 topics that were started but he wasn't.

I don't have a problem with Robb K at all! He's been kind enough to give me info on several topics that I've started myself. I even posted to his Top 5 Kim Weston songs thread so obviously I'm not upset about all the Top 5 topics.

Robb, I'm sorry if you took offense to anything I had to say. I wasn't upset or making fun of you but you have to admit that 34 Top 5 topics at once is quite a lot. I was merely trying to make light of the situation. Thanks again for supporting topics that I've started and sharing what info you have. :)

...and if any of you are considering doing a "Top five of the 34 top 5 threads" thread, I beg you to reconsider. :)

Regards,
Ken

I see your points, Bobby and David, that 34 at the same time knocked a lot of interesting threads downward. And you're right, David, that I was one who complained that threads get buried quickly on this forum, due to the large number of threads started per hour. I won't do anything like that again, but I'm glad that I did. I now have a much better idea of the musical tastes of our frequent posters, and also have learned the titles of several songs unissued on vinyl that are highly praised by people whose taste is close to mine. So, I will now know which songs to get on CD for my listening pleasure. By the way, Bobby, I had already stopped posting, and even left a message saying so before your first message to me telling me to stop. I was interested in the responses to the threads about Golden World's studio and other threads, and didn't want them to get buried any more than anyone else. Other posters had started the threads on Top Five Supremes, Four Tops and Martha & Vandellas,...so, I thought, "how can we see what people like for those artists, and not the rest?" I guess I'm a "cumpulsive completest" at other things besides wanting all the records that exist in my favourite genres!

You're telling me something I already know, but at least you are man enough to tell me to "my face".

Many thanks
David

Never Mind all that David. I'm waitin' on Bobby to respond. I think by him livin' in Philly, I think he's eating to many cheesestakes and milkshakes that it's screwed his mind up so bad that his mouth and insides are all clogged up.

Top of pageBottom of page   By Robb_K (66.81.192.196) on Tuesday, April 06, 2004 - 09:29 pm:

No problem, Rod. I got a laugh out of it, myself. I never knew I could type so fast. Good thing for SD I'm not on broadband when I'm here in USA, otherwise they would have come 10 times as fast! Anyway, I'll be famous now, -known as "Mr. Top Five". When I walk down the street, people will stop and point, and say:"Hey! Isn't that the guy who clogged up Soulful Detroit some years back?". It's better than having rancid tomatoes thrown at you. Don't worry. I'm not so sensitive to criticism (I lived large parts of 12 years in The Middle East).

My whole take on the matter was coming to the aid of Robb. I wasn't coming on posting, looking for an verbal assult, a confrontation. Don't know how Robb does it, but until he came on board he's filled a void when other's took a rest period, especially when it comes to music. My intent was not to be arguementive or opinionated, to be objective and to be open minded instead of negitivity, however Robb expressed that perfectly. I know this debate started yesterday also I'm still waiting for Bobby Eli's response, maybe he'll give an answer by today or Friday. If I have to wait for him to post afterwards or if he doesn't, then I'll know that was just a lie too. No E don't want no confrontation, cause I'll reason with him objectively, and times I'll always win the deal, and he knows I can. And to any one else this ain't about no April Fool's Day and Easter hootenanny either. Cause so many SD Members have gotten together and have double & triple teamed on new posters and have chased them away. Why? to never to be heard from again. David, this is your website, call it as you see fit Daddy-O. SD'ers I can't say much for the SP's heart & soul, some of you SD'ers got no PASSION at times.

P.S.
There is no point to be made.

Don
