I can't believe Knowone has mention "Love Don't Love Nobody (no one) lead vocals by Phillip Soul Wynn R.I.P, that was way too major of a song, and don't ever forget "Mighty Love" come on people even the corny song "Rubberband Man was a smash. Ooh Ooh and Sadie, Don't you know I love ya sweet Sadie, well well, that song inspired one of Tupacs greatest songs "Dear Mama". I am pretty sure there a couple more out their lingering and waiting for someone to pull it out on us. I miss the Spinners.

Hello Everyone.

KB .. I think the intention of the thread was just to have THE SPINNERS recordings for Motown .. hence some of the strange omissions.

On that basis I would put ...

1 : "Truly Yours"
( IMO the pre-cursor for a lot of the stuff that THOM BELL wrote for them at Atlantic like "I'll Be Around" )

2 : "She's Gonna Love Me at Sundown"
( "B" side of "Message from a Blackman". A great "Northern Soul" dancer. )

3 : "It's a Shame"
( Couldn't miss that. )

4 : "I'll Always Love You"
( Couldn't miss that either )

5 : "Bad Bad Weather"
( Love the reference to the weather in London!! A bit stereotyped but a nice thought!!)

Roger

Tri Phi, if you have not found I've Been Hurt, when you do you will be in for a pleasant surprise, Chico Edwards is a pretty good singer, I believe that is his only lead, and Pervis Jackson goes real loooow on this song.

Didn't a Spinners cd come out a few years ago with a lot of the early 60's stuff on it?

Tri Phi it sounds like George Dixson to me, he sang lead on She Don't Love Me, so thats what I was comparing it to, I may be wrong.

03) "I'll Always Love U"

04) "For All We Know"

05) "Truly Yours"

P.S. Hey, Soul Sister, if it included the "Atlantic" Spinners, U'd see "The Rubberband Man"!

Top of pageBottom of page   By TRI-PHI (68.5.143.49) on Sunday, April 04, 2004 - 06:50 pm:

BOBBY SINGS LEAD ON SHE DONT LOVE ME I THINK THATS WHY THE SINGLE WAS ISSUED AS BOBBY SMITH AND THE SPINNERS, GEORGE'S LAST SINGLE MUST HAVE BEEN WHAT DID SHE USE, CHICO REPLACED HIM ON IVE BEEN HURT

Top of pageBottom of page   By Luke Soulwalker (65.81.198.151) on Sunday, April 04, 2004 - 07:11 pm:

No tri phi it was documented that it was George Dixon on She Don't Love Me even though it was credited to Bobby Smith and the Spinners. For a time George and Chico were in the Spinners together while Henry was in the military.

Top of pageBottom of page   By TRI-PHI (68.5.143.49) on Tuesday, April 06, 2004 - 01:06 am:

WOW I DIDNT KNOW THAT, IT SOUNDS LIKE BOBBIE ON SHE DONT LOVE ME, WHERE DID YOU READ THAT CHICO AND GEORGE WERE THERE AT THE SAME TIME, AND ARE THEY BOTH STILL ALIVE?

Top of pageBottom of page   By Luke Soulwalker (68.218.195.113) on Tuesday, April 06, 2004 - 04:59 pm:

Hi Tri Phi, i read that in the issues of Soul Express dealing with the Spinners, http://www.kolumbus.fi/soulexpr/, as far as I know Chico and George are still alive, Chico got into the roofing industry after the Spinners, and George got heavily involved in the church.

Top of pageBottom of page   By Heikki (81.17.199.27) on Wednesday, April 07, 2004 - 09:50 am:

Hi TRI-PHI!

Both Bobbie and Pervis confirmed that George Dixon is handling the lead on She Don't Love Me, as well as the man himself.

George Dixon: "I went into a ministry, Church Of God. I've been in the ministry ever since and haven't been involved in music. I had a stroke in the brain in '96, but God's bringing me back."

Edgar "Chico" Edwards, who first joined the group in the latter part of the 50s, left in '60 but came back again in '61 but left the music business for good in 1967 and hooked up with a roofing company. Chico: "It was great to work with them, but then money got funny."
(Soul Express)

Best regards
Heikki
