Hi from england ! Have been a big fan of james jamerson for a long time and have only seen him performing live on the 'funk bros' dvd and a few documentaries over the years all very short .
Can anyone recommend any dvd's available that feature this legend of motown playing in concert ? ?

Many thanks

I've seen clips of Jamerson & some of the Funk Brothers on the following programs:

Four Tops Live at the Park West 1981 VHS ONLY
Eddie Willis is the guitarist.

TEEN TOWN - Motown Special - 1964 -
A Detroit after school music program that features b&w/non-sound footage of the Motown studio & Funk Brothers. Some of the footage was used for SITSOM. The Funks also back up the Supremes on a live performance of "Come See About Me". Jamerson can be seen in the background. (Bootleg available)

Save The Children - 1972 Movie - Footage in SITSOM. No release. Possible bootleg, but I haven't seen one.

Motown 40th Special from ABC TV - Studio footage of the Funks. I believe Jamerson plays his Fender V in the footage!

Motown at the Apollo Theater 1963 - I think Jamerson backs up the Miracles. My copy isn't very clear. (Bootleg Available)

Maybe Mr. Gordy has other footage in his archives.

Maybe there's footage of James in one of his 1970s tours - Joan Baez - Aretha Franklin - Marvin Gaye? I haven't seen any.

Ask Dr. Licks - He would have done research in this area for SITSOM.

What's his son been up to lately ? Did you all know he was part of a group called "Chanson" that recorded for Ariola Records in the the late '70's? They had a hit in 1978 called "Don't Hold Back". His partner, guitarist David Williams later went on to record and tour with Michael Jackson for his Bad Tour and The Jackson's for their Victory tour.

Remember those funky guitar licks in Rebbie Jackson's song "Centipede"? That was David.

In 1990 I went to see Paul Jackson, Jr. for his Out Of The Shadows Tour and Jamerson Jr. was on bass. Jr. didn't look that great, it fact, he looked liked he just shot up a massive dose of heroin.
