Hello again, soul brothers & sisters,

Hey, R&B,
The most recent was Billy Paul's "East".
I read many time ago a good critical. After, i find the Lp "Going East" in a second hand store, but totally destroyed (sleeve and vynil!). Finally, around one year ago, i find a "Irma - Molto Jazz Records" italian compilation called "Groovy, vol. 2" that includes "East"... And i'm not decieved. Have e wind effect intro and good vocals. In addition, this same compilation includes another good tune that haved intrigued me for years, "Lies" by Asha Putli.

Peace & Soul Food!

What's worse is when you only know the song but not the artist nor the title of that song..
I mean I was able to tape a little piece of a tune on the radio about 10 years ago... and I played it to every record shop owner around the world.. you name it, DC, NY, LA, Chicago, London, Tokyo... none was ever able to tell me what it was...
One day I go to my best friend's house and he tells me he's going to move to a new house and needs to make some space because he doesn't want to move just everything...
I pick up some records among which a couple I had never heard before... the first one being Yusef Lateef's 'Autophisiopsychic' LP... BANG! The first track on side 1 was the one I had been looking the world over for... LOL Too funny to think I had gone through all this when a friend of mine had it all the time...

I searched for "A Little More Love" by Kim Weston on US Tamla 54106 or on Canadian Tamla for over 35 years. I finally got it on UK Tamla-Motown EP.

Worth the wait eh Robb_K!!

Now you ought to try and seek out the video appearance from Ready Steady Go where she is introduced by some geezer called Paul McCartney!

Thanks for the tip, John. Am I likely to find that in a thrift/Junk store in Den Haag, Munich, Winnipeg, or Los Angeles?

Hey Robb
wasn't that Kim Weston 45 withdrawn in the USA soon after release? Don't know why, I love it!
I got that EP in the UK when first issued..it's pretty dog-eared now...but copies in good condition are worth quite a bit.

Great thread! It happened to me last week. Been looking for a song since 1966. All I knew about the song was one line of lyrics and was recorded by a soul group. Searching the net one day, came upon a web site that sells records and typed in the lyrics. Pow, the tune came up, but still wasn't 100% sure, I mean I ran across other songs with the same name.
I found the song on a downloadable NPR playlist out of Providence RI WBSR. The song: "Things Ain't What They Used To Be" by Harold Burrage from 1965. Like RnB said one day it's there and you are ecstatic!

Great topic R&B! Just a few weeks ago I finally found a copy of 'Are You Lonely' by Sisters Love on A&M after years of wanting to hear it. The bad news is that my turntable is in storage somewhere so I don't have any idea when I will finally hear what that song sounds like! LOL.

Here are some other singles that I've wanted for years but I haven't got for one reason or another:

THE LOVE THAT A WOMAN SHOULD GIVE TO A MAN/Patti Drew (Capitol 2473)

THREE HEARTS IN A TANGLE/George & Gwen McCrae (Alston 4576)

THE BOTTLE OR ME/Dee Dee Sharp (Gamble 4005)

CONQUER THE WORLD/Dee Dee Sharp & Bunny Sigler (Philadelphia International 3512)

YOUR SIGN IS A GOOD SIGN/Mitty Collier (Peach Tree 128)

These are just a few of the songs I've wanted to own or wanted to hear for years. It seems like every time I find a copy my money is funny and when I do have the money I can't find these songs anywhere! Go Figure! :)

Mike S.: Tamla 54106 was scheduled, but I don't know if it was even pressed on U.S. Tamla, as when I had a look at the Jobete Music record files, no pressing of it was there. The same for Motown Records' record file. I don't know if even the 6 file copies (as were made for The Frank Wilson were made for THAT release). I had heard a rumour that it WAS pressed up on Canadian Tamla, but I never saw it. I'll bet it never got to Winnipeg. I also spent quite a bit of time in ontario on the Peninsula, looking for records and never saw it. Perhaps it was only released in UK? The UK E.P. is a later pressing. The original was a single on Stateside. I wonder why they pulled such a great song, sung so well, and yet released Gordy 7041???

John: I bet I have a friend or three in Lancashire who have a video clip of Kim on that programme which I can see (or get a copy of) next time I visit Merry old England. Actually, I've probably seen that clip many years ago. I used to spend a month or two per year there in the old days (late '60s-mid '80s).

Hello Everyone.

The track that I searched for years for was "Sunshine Lady" by WILLIE HUTCH on U.S. Motown.

When I first heard it in 1974, it seemed so good that I was convinced that it would soon get a U.K. release on Tamla-Motown. Funnily enough THEY NEVER RELEASED IT!!

If it had been on an obscure label I would have spent my 75p or whatever, and got an imported U.S. copy, but Motown??

For years I kept a look out for it. Everytime I saw a WILLIE HUTCH L.P. or single I would be convinced that it would have this gem on it, but for years I was disappointed. Then finally, around 1986/87 I found a copy of his "Exposed" L.P. which includes it, in a used record shop in Sheffield. I bought it, and played it, and ... guess what folks ... it was even BETTER than I recalled.

I now also have it on a "Best Of" C.D. from U.S. Motown that I bought some 3 or 4 years back. But a similar compilation that was released in the U.K. last year omits it!! How on earth can you have a "Best of" compilation that omits someones "Best" (IMO) recording.

Rodmann .. I have a copy of that DEE DEE SHARP "The Bottle or Me" 45 .. keep looking .. its definitely worth the wait.

Roger

I finally found a record I've been looking for for 44 years!: "I Got A Girl"/"Phyllis" by Major Lance (backed by The Impressions) from 1959. I could have bought it new, but couldn't afford the dollar, as there were so many other better records to buy then. I was ready to buy it one year letter, but in all the millions of records I've looked through since then, I never saw it again. Unbelievably, it has also never been re-released on vinyl OR on CD. I traded for it a few days ago, with a bloke in UK, and it is "in the mail". I can't wait. I hope the plane doesn't get hijacked!!!

I had that wonderful Kim Weston EP on UK Tamla-Motown. Along with one by Stevie with four Cosby-Paul songs and a brilliant one by the Contours, it was lost in London in 1971 with the rest of my original Motown collection and the only acetate of my first (and only) studio recording - two takes of a jazz work called 'Song of Passion' we performed in 1968.

I have a WLP on the Marvin "Soldier's Plea" that I found some time ago in a thrift store. It looks OK.

Best,

Mark
