Whatever became of industry vet, Wes Farrell?

I would love to ask him some questions about artists he had on his rosters. Such as Marion Jarvis on Roxbury.

He had a hand in many a hits. I like to hear from the horses mouth about the discovery of artists.

Cornbread,

Its gonna be a looong time before you get the opportunity to ask Wes Farrel any questions, because the man passed on several years ago.

Hey Bobby: I'm sorry to hear of Wes Farrell's passing. I can just imagine all the stories and facts that all these industry folks take to the grave with them.

He also put out Wm de Vaughan and New York City on his Chelsea/Roxbury labels...but I think he mainly picked up masters rather than doing actual production work. Also cowrote a lot of good songs back in the early/mid 60s....some with Bert Berns (I think). Wasn't he also involved in some way with DAWN!!!? (sorry to bring them up)

W.D Vaughan was produced in Philly by John Davis,
music by MFSB rhuthm section.
NYC produced in Phily by Thom Bel, music by MFSB.

Wes Farrell wore many hats during his career - songwriter, producer, label owner being three of them.

Wes co-wrote the classic "Hang On Sloopy" with the late Bert Berns (Bert used the name "Bert Russell"). He also produced "Come A Little Bit Closer" for Jay & the Americans as well as Every Mother's Son's "Come On Down To My Boat".

In 1970, Wes relocated to Los Angeles to produce David Cassidy & the Partridge Family (actually David and LA's finest studio musicians!). He opened Chelsea/Roxbury Records in 1974.

Wes married Tina Sinatra in the mid 1970s. They divorced many years later.

He died in 1996.

Most of the interesting stuff on Chelsea / Roxbury
was picked up from independent producers all
over the US. If you don't have Charles Brimmer's
albums keep an eye out for them - excellent deep
soul from New Orleans, produced by Senator Jones.

Must admit the stuff he was directly involved in I
find almost unlistenable - Linda Carr and The Love
Squad for one, pity as earlier on she'd made a lot
of good records.

Wes Farrell was married once before his marriage to Tina to his childhood sweetheart, they had a daughter and divorced in 1971 after five years of marriage.

Eli: I went to Gratz with a William DeVaughn but when I saw the singer's picture they weren't the same person. That's not a common name.

Also on another thread which is bumped down, I had asked what was Len Barry doing these days? I thought he was quite handsome and sexy back in the day.
