If the movie does get an ok, could we cast....

Angelina Jolie?
Sandra Bullock?

Someone said Norah Jones, but can she act?

Don Cheadle as Thom Bell?

Way back when the movie was first idea was first brought to the table, taylor hackford was going to be the director, with beverly D'Angelo playing Linda and Mickey Rourke playing Eppie, Linda's husband.

If Natalie Wood were alive, she would be the only one to play Linda.

My choices for the film right now would be:

Mario Van Peebles or Shemar Moore -Thom Bell
Diane Lane-Linda Creed
Angie Bassets hubby as Gamble
Martin Lawrence as Huff
The guy who plays the pres on 24 as Bobby Martin

The real musicians as themselves.

Why was this movie shelved?

Top of pageBottom of page   By Eli (68.236.53.71) on Tuesday, March 23, 2004 - 03:20 pm:

Now, thats a good question, Donnie.
I believe that it's still a possibility though.
As execs are moving around all the time, it was probably "lost in the shuffle", but when the card comes back to the top of the deck, I believe that the "hand wil be won".

I didn't even think of Diane Lane! Such elegance! Perfectamundo! :)

Can we put Jamie Foxx somewhere in this movie? After his portrayal of Bundini Brown (Ali's cornerman), this cat can act.

Top of pageBottom of page   By E (68.236.53.71) on Tuesday, March 23, 2004 - 03:33 pm:

Jamie Foxx is a good actor, but not serious enough for Gamble.

This movie wouldn't fly because the general public doesn't know who she is. She's not exactly front page news folks let's be real. Though she was incredibly talented, I don't think it's worth the risk of making a movie about her. The movie company would lose their shirt.

Paul,

I respect your opinions of an industry vet as yourself.

However, in addition to the bottom line, isn't there some room for educating the public?

I wonder why Creed is not known as, say, Carol King? Could it be that most of Creed's lyrics were written for a mainly soul market, as to King's pop market? I don't mean to go there, but that is a question I ask myself when comparing the two.

I still think it can be pulled off, especially with the right actress (Lane, Jolie, or Bullock).

Just remember, Round Midnight (1986) was a hit, even though: 1) it was made in France; and 2) The 80s generation had hardly a clue who Dexter Gordon was.

By the way, the Creed-penned "Greastest Love Of All" isn't exactly an exclusively soul ballad. :)

Is this THE PJr??
If so , you played on some sessions for me in L.A. back in'79!

There is an NYC-based actor named Roger Robinson. If he were about 10 or 15 years younger, he'd be perfect for Norman Harris. He bears a pretty strong resemblance to him. I would have suggested the recently deceased Robert Pastorelli, formerly of "Murphy Brown" as Bobby Eli. Courtney Vance might be good as Kenny Gamble.

Paul Jackson Jr,coolness!!Hot guitarist onboard!!Welcome!!Bobby E,how about Cuba Gooding Jr playing Thom Bell-cheerful boisterous persona slash personality.Would be great.Caleb

Mike,
Courtney Vance is who I was thinking of for KG.
I had a mental block earlier when I was trying to think of his name.
How 'bout a living person for me(smile) although Pastorelli was a great choice!(just NOT Dom Deluise, please)

Caleb,
Yes, Cuba would make a great Thom Bell

Also,Ben Kingsley(with beard) as Joe Tarsia

Why not Bobby? After all, it was Dom who did the underwater scenes for Brooke Shields in "Blue Lagoon."

Eli,

Richard Dryfus or Robert Duval as Don Renaldo?

Top of pageBottom of page   By Eli (68.236.53.71) on Wednesday, March 24, 2004 - 12:30 pm:

Thats funny Mike, and me being a Pisces, cant even swim.
Go figure!!

Donnie,

Don Renaldo was sort of a semi-gruff sounding but a sweetheart of a 'south Philly' Italian guy who used the word kid a lot, as in 'I'll see if I can get em for ya, kid'
he sometimes told tales of the 'guys downtown' who used to take care of things, catch my drift??#$%^&*(

Top of pageBottom of page   By Eli (68.236.53.71) on Wednesday, March 24, 2004 - 12:31 pm:

BTW...Don's real name was Vincent Pignotti!
I like Don Renaldo better.

Bobby, there was a scene from Spike Lee's "School Daze" where the football star, played by Bill Nunn was slow dancing with a girl and tryin' to get his mack on.

"You remind me of cornbread and Wilson Pickett"
"Cause you got one of them In The Midnight Hour bodies"
"What's your sign?" "Don't tell me, Virgo."
"Naw, naw", I'm gettin' Capricorn vibes from you"
"I'm a Pisces and I can't swim a lick, ain't that a bitch?"

Top of pageBottom of page   By Eli (68.236.53.71) on Wednesday, March 24, 2004 - 01:40 pm:

Wow Mike!!
At least now I have street cred!

Paul Jackson, Jr! I remember hearing Helen Baylor give you a shout out on her gospel video. Now, I'm going home to watch it again.

There have been 3 re-writes on The Linda Creed story including a dance w/ Jerry Greenberg at MJJ music...Eppy has yet to feel the story has been accurately told & that's part of it,also financing. They wanted it to go more in the direction of an after-school type movie, like the Ann Jillian story,a close friend of Linda's. Linda never dwelled on fame or fortune, instead her focus was on her family, the true essence of Creed.

Uh Nosey, I hate to bust your bubble, but he's not THE Paul Jackson. Let me explain further. In this forum, so far this month, this IP address has had the following names associated with it:

WTC Survivor
Paul E Shore
Richard Simmons
Grubman, Indursky & Shindler
Paul Jackson Jr. (The above 2 on the same day, no less)
A Motown Historian

Do you follow a trend here? What made me notice this address is that in the "Prayer Thread", he was praying for Bin Laden. As I knew someone who died in the WTC, I didn't find the remark to be funny or clever. Then I noticed were that Earth, Wind & Fire was his least favorite Motown group & the wonderful dietary info he gave us as Mr Simmons.

The bad thing is that whoever this individual is, sometimes he/she has some good points to share. Unfortunately, it's invalidated by all of the silly pseudonyms & comments. How can I take their opinion seriously, when they don't even know their name? Remember the book Sybil? In full effect here. Then somebody told me that this same IP posted on the Twisted Sister website
as "Tito Jackson @ Forgotten Jackson.com". I didn't believe it, but check that address at Google & sure enough, it's there. Damn, that's tired & immature. Sorry Nosey, but you've been X'd.

Well, I would be very interested in the movie...I only know of Linda's name and her pairings with Thom Bell on some of the most memorable songs that we've heard. :)
