Do you or anyone remember him? He and my buddy attend the same church and she told me he used to sing R & B. I recently heard, "Will You Miss Me" via the internet. He sounds a little like Teddy and of course he (David) is the "star" on their church choir. (For any Teddy fans I mean no disrespect.)

David (Abu) should have been the next Teddy.
Did you ever hear him and Sister Sledge on the original version of hes al the man I need?

He ran a natural food stand at Super Sunday and Odunde for a while.

Sadly, he was incarcerated for statuatory rape some time ago.

E: Glad you agree with me regarding his sound. My ears are tuned after all. LOL!

Ohmygosh ... I can't believe this ... I love David Simmons. What a great talent. To me, he did sound like Teddy but there was a touch more warmth in his voice (NOT that I don't like Teddy, but David was betta). I'm glad to hear he's okay and still using his gift. (I found a test pressing of his in Broadway Eddie's in Camden, it was a great find for somebody like me -- both a fan of David's and the Sweeties.)

Linda,
Sadly, Broadway Eddie passed away about six months ago.
For those who dont know, Broadway Eddie Warhoftig was co owner with Gamble of the North Bay label and owned tons of property in camden, NJ, including his record shop which was a landmark at Broadway and Mickle in downtown Camden.

His basement and upstairs would be a haven for collectors.

What I wouldn't give to go to his house and have a look. That store in Camden was one of my favorite vacation stops! One of the best trips I eva took was in 1988. Went to Wiggins Park on the waterfront to see The Sweeties in concert. It was July 4; their show concluded with a fireworks display. I love their sound so much, so it was a treat for me. The next day, Evette took us to Broadway Eddie's and I was hooked!

Where, I might add, up to a foot of snow is expected tomorrow night. My poor lilies just peeked up out of the dirt yesterday. I hope they survive the onslaught of snow.

I do rememeber David Simmons on the Sister Sledge track. He was a very smooth vocalist. I've been trying to find some solo albums/cds by him. If anyone can help me out, let me know where to check.

Hi Glencro. If you go to www.gemm.com, they have David's (and everybody else's) LPs available.

I have the David Simmons' Fantasy album Hear Me Out which features Will They Miss Me, produced by Butch Ingram and WMOT. That track was great but the rest of the material was just OK really.

Amazingly no Bobby E on the LP for a Philly project. Were you on vacation Bobby?????

I also liked David Ebo who was another Teddy soundalike. I'd Rather Be By Myself on Domino produced by Allan Felder was his only album (I think) and the title track was excellent.

Thanx Linda...this gemm.com is gold mine. I think I'm going to go broke on here :)

Oh yeah ... there are some real gems at that website. I've bought from them several times. It's like a clearinghouse of record dealers. I've had no problem at all. Just ask my Visa card!!

Ahhhhhhh, David Ebo. He sings the H-E-Double Hockey Sticks out of "I'd Rather Be By Myself".

Hi Mike,
There were times that I was in Cali or Seattle, so there was the odd session that I wasnt on.
It was more than Likely fat larys band doing the backing tracks on that stuff.
Idid the occasional overdub though.

Bobby..you are right about Fat Larry's band doing the backing as he actually arranged and co produced the track...
Wasnt David Ebo withe the Bluenotes for some years?

Top of pageBottom of page   By Eli (68.236.53.71) on Friday, March 19, 2004 - 11:42 am:

Mike, yes Ebo was with the Bluenotes.
I dont know why he left.
Harold did have a problem though keeping all the "next Teddys"
Imediately after Teddy left, the next "Teddy" was Gilbert Saunders who even looked a lot like T.P.
The new Bluenotes included Bill Spradley(rip) from Nat Turners Rebellion and "Blackie"(rip)
