A friend's husband passed away this week. Today at his funeral, the nurse who has been taking care of him for the last year sang "Precious Lord Take My Hand." And she had one of the most beautiful voices I'd ever heard -- I almost thought Mahalia Jackson was behind the mic. We all know somebody who can sing their faces off but chose, for whatever reason, not to enter the music biz. Anybody you know with a voice like that?

My mom for one. She sings those Sunday gospels with the same fervor as Clara and some of those other old time favorites of mine. She has this clear, ringing but full voice that I absolutely love.

My mother had a very good voice, though I think that her voice would lean toward Pop/Jazz.

...my Mama and my Baby Brother in Brooklyn NY, my Oldest Son, my Daughter and my Sisters Wilma & Della here in Detroit, my Ex Husband, and so many other people at my job, can really blow...
Neecie, Liz, & Pat, (my little group).
You'd be surprised at so many everyday people that are excellent actors, actresses, singers, writers, business people, builders, Musicians, Artists, Poets and sports figures, that are walking around us everyday.

Isaiah, thanx 4 the compliment...people at work say that, but I don't think so... I wish I could sound 1/2 as good as she does. I think maybe it's a similar style that's all.
Thanx again Isaiah, you know how make a Lady feel good...Thanx Dr. Feelgood. (smile)

THe First Lady at my "CHUCH" can sing the bricks off the building into a new renovated space.

At this moment, I have to shout out my daughter who is a star in the making...very reminscent of Natalie Cole's sound...but she can reach Minnie's upper octaves.

My Mom can harmonize to anything...she is serious piano player though, concert trained and all...

My Dad (GOD Rest His Soul) could make the goosebumps raise on your skin...if you closed your eyes and just sat in a room with him singing you would think you were in the prescence of Nat King Cole...My dad could wear out 'Staighten Up and Fly Right'...

My Stepfather (GOD Rest His Soul)actually sang professionally with the Sam Wooding Singers... and and as a fill in for other R&B/Soul groups...what a baritione...

I have been blessed to be brought up in a musical home and exposed to "CHUCH" where the real singers are...

Dyva, rat on, rat on, sistawoman... As Sam would say, thas where its at! As a kid every girl I dated seemed to be able to blow some soul, because a lot of 'em were church girls... One of my best friends back in da day, his moms would freak Glady's version of The Makings of You just cleaning and dusting the furniture...

I don't wanna say it aint no big thang, Shangin, but having seen so much of it from cats blowing on the corner, waiting for the A Train, kickin' some game to the ladies with a song, I realized a while ago, its not an uncommon talent... As to why folk don't pursue it professionally, there are a myriad of personal reasons for that, and some have been addressed at this board... Does anybody remember Waymon Tisdale or Terry Cummings??? Both were professional basketball stars, and both made millions of dollars doing that, as opposed to pursuing their musical careers... When you're singing professionally, it pays to have a day job - or be exceedingly humorous like Jamie Foxx(smile!) As far as Lady Medusa is concerned, she saves lives, and I don't think there could be a higher calling than that... God Bless You, Shuga Brown!!!(smile!)

Peace!
Isaiah

Waymon Tisdale, I was at one of his concerts a couple of years ago, I believe he was a guitar player, a big Guy in statue...but he was great.
