George Katsakis is doing such a great job of keeping us informed of the goings on of an increasingly popular night spot, it has become necessary to create this new thread.
I'm sure this topic will become a regular fixture of the SD forum.

Ralph were u the guy that used to call me at HONEY radio, and talk about our pal George,????

Mark,
No I'm not the guy that called you, although I'm a big fan of George K and could spend quite a bit of time talking about his musical influence on me way back in the last century.
Wish I could meet you this week at the Clawson, but I live in California.

Stay tuned for an update on the "See and Be Seen" Clawson from last Saturday night. Your reporter this week is Detroit Gal and boy does she dish the dirt!!!

The only report is this: George Katsakis and band were hospitable as always and the funk was maintained.
Favorite moment: Dennis Coffey played guitar for two sets, and at one point a white-jacketed cook or bus boy in the back of the room yelled out "Dennis Coffey!" thrusting his arm in the air, then ran back to his duties in the kitchen. Was I the only one who saw this?
Also on hand: Lee Alan, Lynn Bruce and his wife, two sisters of funk and George Young. Various combinations of individuals jumped onstage, it's all a blur today. The beat, and the funk, goes on ...
By Millie (68.40.198.72 - 68.40.198.72) on Monday, July 15, 2002 - 09:55 pm: |
...and I second that emotion...er...motion!! And to think the Funk Sisters were on the stage at the same time as Dennis Coffey!! WOW!

Hi Dave!
Good to hear from you, and yes, I told both Lynn and Dennis hello from you. I can't believe you're working soooo many hours...all work and no play makes David a dull boy! Seriously, how long is this going to go on? When Pam e-mailed me last week to say you guys couldn't make it up to the Clawson and mentioned your working hours, I couldn't believe it. We do have a lot of fun up there, and you're right, George is one of a kind..he's truly a good guy, and I'm very happy to have made his acquaintence...he called me today to tell me he expects to be my friend when I'm an old lady and I told I'm already an old lady! He never says a bad word about anyone. My Funk sister and I have been practicing so maybe, just maybe, we'll perform at the reunion in September! lol...can you imagine?? Take care of yourself...!

The pics look great. George Young and Millie look great as does Dennis. I don't know who the other people are though. Don't worry about the blanks Mark. If you only knew what I had to deal with to delete things on the forum. The process is VERY slow and cumbersome, at least on my computer. Just keep the pics coming pal. they're great!

here is some inside stuff, talk about wild and wierd stuff let me elaborate on my last message, Marlyn you might know about this, Armen, hade a office on Woodward a few doors from the Paradise Theater, then he moved his office to Finkel, his office on Finkle had a bad past you native Detroiters remember The Piere Palum School of Broadcast? do you folks remember what happned there??? it seems one of his female students (very married) was messing around with an instructor, her husband came looking for his wife one night, the idiot that was there with them as I recall acording to the papers at the time said oh you want to know where your wife is, then flipped a light switch in the studio and there was the instructor and her makeing love the guy went out to his car and got a shotgun and blew them both away, years later 7 or 8 Armen rented the place, my ex aunt in law (Ilene Hagopian)was always very nervous there she kept hearing strange noises, etc.
inside stuff 2
Those of you that have been on the KENER, site look at the news people see George Hunter, my sister was married to Gary Hunter, his son, you people better nice in Detroit when you come here, or my neice Kim Hunter (a Detroit Cop) will bust you and my nephew Dwane Hunter will write about the bust, he works for the Detroit News using his grandpa's name George Hunter. George and his wife are gone now, his wife died last year, i knew her till the end. she was a great lady. next time or when i have more time, tell you about my radio audition with Paul Christie, at WNICE aka KENER.

Last night was a real Who's Who at the Clawson Steak House! For starters, sighted having a great time, were Gino Washington, George Young, Dennis Coffey along with his son Dennis, Sue (Detroit Gal), and Marilyn Bond with all of her photo albums...wow...as I went through them, it made me realize that none of us are getting any younger, so it's time to start enjoying life...how? By visiting the Clawson Steak House! John Brooks stopped by, telling stories about when he was an agent in Hollywood, as well as when he managed Mickey Denton! There were stories abound last night...some of a questionable nature, but stories none the less!
September 6th is fast approaching, so please make your reservations (if you'll be having dinner) at the Clawson Steak House if you haven't already. You can visit their website at www.clawsonsteakhouse.com and peruse the menu.

If you choose not to have dinner, please arrive as early as possible to be assured you'll get a good table.
For all of the musicians out there who plan on joining us, please don't forget to bring your instruments!
Any questions, call George Katsakis as the Clawson, or you can e-mail me. Looking forward to seeing all of you there!
