Hi everyone,

Sorry to bring you the bad news. After a long struggle with lung cancer, Pistol Allen passed away last night in a Detroit hospital. When I have more details as to funeral arrangements and hopefully, a possible fund for his young daughter, I'll post them.

Be well,

Allan Slutsky

Pistol will be missed Allan. I remember watching him explain the Motown drum sound on the film. He was so animated and enthusiastic. He was a great drummer and friend!

This is sad news.

Kind of makes the film and the proposed tour much more significant in my view.

Cheers

The news of Pistol Allen's death, another Motown legend passing away is indeed sad. The good news is the rich tradition that he was such a significant part of. His daughter should never want for anything. I am very much interested in donating to her fund as well as any other fund tht is a contributory fund for all of the Motown legend's off springs that may need monetary support

What were some of the Motown hit recordings that Pistol played the drums on? Can anyone name the songs. I have been trying to find out for the longest. I know that he was a member of the Funk Brothers, but they were not on the labels.

Cocoa,
These are just a few, but Pistol played on the Supremes' "Baby Love," Martha and the Vandellas' "Heat Wave" and Marvin Gaye's "How Sweet it Is (To Be Loved By You)" ...
