The title of the thread alone makes it appropriate to have more than one thread. More likely a cellarful of threads.

My copy is delayed somewhere in the post - drat! I was a little cheesed off when I saw it down Oxford Street yesterday in one of the record shops. Early pm, I recommended it to a French guy, in the same shop, who was hovering with another Motown CD in his hand, and his girlfriend next to him. We chatted for several minutes about soul & Motown. We said goodbye and about 3 hours later as I approached the bookshop down Denmark Street, who is stood outside smiling at me, but Julian, this French guy I saw earlier. I asked him what he was doing and he told me 'I've come to see Dennis Coffey, he is here this evening'!! I took him for a beer next door and he told me he has every Ric Tic record, but 2 in his collection. I have given him soulfuldetroits address and he hopes to join us soon. He then told me he had bought a cellarful! And I still haven't got mine boo hoo!

I thought it was July 30....you might wanna check your date again...

To be honest, I don't think I could wait that long for a US copy. I think if I was in your position, I would have ordered it from Jim Stewart so that I knew it backwards by the time it came out in the States.

Cellarful 2? Is this right. So soon after Cellarful. Are we talking about a US only release at this stage. Appreciate any more details.

Top of pageBottom of page   By Ritchie (62.254.0.6 - 62.254.0.6) on Wednesday, June 19, 2002 - 10:22 pm:

Don't get too excited - "Cellarful of Motown 2" means the second thread on this Forum, devoted to this fine release, not a tantalising reference to a volume two... (yet!)

CC - mail me if you want a copy sooner than July.

I know I could not wait for the US release so I ordered mine via David Nathan. It arrived on Monday (June 17) and I love it. So far I am enjoying "ALL I DO IS THINK ABOUT YOU" (Tammi) and "BABY A GO GO" (Barbara McNair). I especially like this tune, quite MOR and a bit Austin Powers. Can you imagine a sexy Barbara singing this song as the theme or even Beyonce (of Destiny's Child). A great number! I also enjoy the Contours' cut and all of the Brenda Holloway recordings ---- what a gem! I'm already looking forward to Volume 2.

Hello everyone my copy arrived today and I have to say what a collection it is! Tammi's All I Do is my favorite and all of Brenda Holloway's are to die for. I hope there is a volume 2. I have a question for everyone I was on the Motown web site and some of the members were saying they heard that the next releases are going to be Marvin Gaye,Miracles,Marvelettes,Mary Wells live albums and the Motown Revue's Vol 1 & 2 does anyone know? Maybe Harry Weinger knows.

First, so much for issuing it in the US...

Second, news about upcoming releases is recently posted on the site LeVan mentions.

if it's OK with the moderators I can re-post the info here.

I am not sure what live albums LeVan is referring to. Maybe some fans posted a wish list. We are hoping to reissue the 4 Motortown Revue album on CD in one box set with extra tracks - but not indivivdual artist live albums.

The vague possibility of the Revue albums being reissued is of great interest. By "four" I assume this includes the Live in Paris set..? At my own Yahoo group, we have been trying to collect all four (we presently have three - the Paris set is the missing one!)

Extra tracks...? Let's hope a/ they still exist, and b/ there are some by the Temptations, whose performances on volume two are a definite highlight of the album!

THISIS WHAT WAS POSTED ON THE MOTOWN YAHOO SITE - in response to questions about releases:

Good thought, there have been some things hanging up there. Jim Stewart's posts offer the best firm dates, of course, and while I only make 'em (or help out overseas), not get them into the shops, here's some info that may be of interest:

The US catalog group released this week (18 June) a 2-CD Rick James Anthology, to replace the one that been deleted during the merger. This one
does not include the megamix 'medley' or any of the 'new' demo songs Rick provided in 1995, in order to make room for other tracks from his Motown albums as he requested - plus his hit single on Warners, "Loosey's Rap."

The UK is intending to issue the Billy Eckstine 2-CD together with two other 2-CD sets, on Barbara McNair and Jimmy Ruffin. All of them feature copious unreleased and rare cuts, and the vault research/studio work alone has pushed the optimistic dates around. But the idea is to issue these collections together, hence the wait. There is no absolutely firm date yet but they are
much further along than the last bit of news.

Also in the works from the UK are Edwin Starr two-fers, with bonus tracks. Date to be announced.

'Cellarful' will have a U.S. release date of 30 July. Exact same tracks and, FYI for collectors, there will be minor typo corrections in the booklet.

Late September is still the target date for the Supremes 70s 2-CD Anthology in the US. It will be issued at the same time as a Smokey Robinson & The Miracles Anthology - like the Rick James, to replace the one deleted during the merger. The track list will be modified; i.e., no Frank Wilson performances, for example, but it's still in the works so no track list to post. Again, real dates to be announced.

Also in the works in the U.S. is a 2-CD Deluxe Edition of Marvin Gaye's 'I Want You.' Should be a good one. To be issued simultaneously is Leon Ware's 'Musical Massage,' which will include 5 bonus tracks, with 3 of them different than the independent UK reissue so that all 5 tracks relate to the 'I Want You' sessions. The album will also be restored to its original running order. Release dates have been moved around also, due to tape research, but those should be on their way in the fall.

The Motortown Revue box set is planned but no formal date has been set. It will be the 4 original albums on separate discs - too long to make 2 two-fers of them - which leaves room for a few bonus tracks on each. A great celebration
of the tour's 40th anniversary.

More stuff on paper, and we'll get to those when there's a real date on the horizon.

Cheers,

HW

I've just bought 'cellarful' in fact it's the first CD i've bought for a while. It's a revelation to me that Motown was much more than HDH,smokey, whitfield, etc. Nevertheless i am still impressed - one of Motown's greatest strength's was it's choice of different styles, and there always seems to be something different available if you are tired of listening to one particular artist.

Please tell us about your involvement with this 4-star C.D.
I just put a note on the Temptation site talking about this great C.D.

Me!!! I am but a mere southerner from London.

You have a wealth of forum people here that you can do the Northern scene more justice that me. Keith Rylatt and others have even written books about it.

My involvement was as an outsider looking in and wishing I was part of that club scene.
