Bad news on this one, I'm afraid - Yvonne passed on in 1994.

She was working as a valet for Dionne Warwick prior to her untimely demise. I knew her quite well in the day.

Dear Vickie here is some info on Yvonne.

Yvonne got her start as a latter-day member of the re-formulated Chantels and the James Brown Revue. Signed to Motown in the early '70s as a result of her work with Chuck Jackson, she appeared in a minor role as a chanteuse in the film "Lady Sings the Blues" before hooking up with producer Norman Whitfield for a first-rate series of singles: "Love Ain't No Toy," "Walk Out the Door If You Wanna," and what is perhaps the definitive version of "Funky Music Sho' 'Nuff Turns Me On," and a stunning remake of the Kim Weston/Gladys Knight semistandard "It Should Have Been Me," which dented the lower end of the pop charts in 1976 and became a club classic.. A raucous soul belter who deserved better at Motown, Fair died in Las Vegas 3-6-1994.

Apparently Yvonne was introduced to Motown by David Ruffin, and there was talk of them doing an album together. As far as I'm aware I have a copy of her first released recording for Motown, a song called Stay A Little While Longer, written by Fugua-Scott-Williams.

Yvonne Fair had one album on the Motown label that came out in the spring of 1975 called "The Bitch Is Black". If you can locate a copy pick it up! It is sensational and one of the hardest raw soul albums to ever come out of the 70's California Motown Experience.

Here I go again but one thing that made the music raw was the particpation of Billy Bass & Eddie Hazel. There's one song (Stay a little longer) where Yvonne first goes into James Brown's please please please for just a snippet & followsd that with the Funkadelic chant Whoa Ha Hey, Whoa Ha Ha. You're right Greg its a great album, from front to back

Hello Vickie:

If Norman was involved you might want to try to connect up with Clay McMurray. He was working for Norman on the left coast at that time. He sometimes shows up on the forum. If I talk to him this weekend I will tell him you are looking for information.

Hello to all,
I just read your Yvonne Fair comments and thought I would add that she was married to Sam Strain (when I met him in 1974)of the Imperials, Chips, Fantastics, O'jays, and nowadays again with Anthony & the Imperials.
