I'm kind of a soul/R&B novice, so I'm might be asking about someone everyone knows about already. Although I grew up in the 60's I was never much of a Motown fan. I took up bass about 8 years ago which led me to Jamerson, Mr.Babitt, Motown, Philly etc.,... how did miss this great music growing up. My favorite vocalist is Dennis Edwards who was with the Temptations in the late 60's. All I know about him was he use to be in the Contours. Can someone fill me in on his career? Is he still performing? Any CD recommendations?

john, if you can get the CD "Temptations one by one" which includes ruffin, kendericks, and paul williams as well as dennis, it would be a good starter, only for his "when the lights come down on love" which i think is his best track, his two vinyl albums from the 80s should be easy to pick up as well he was still performing up to a couple of years ago, happy searching!!!

You won't be able to find this 45, but his release on International Soulsville is stunning.
From 1965, it is double sided magic.
'Johnny on the spot' and 'I didn't have to'
Produced by Rob Reeco, I asked the question sometime ago if anyone knew who he was. Does anyone know? I wonder if he is Bob Hamilton?
Arranged by the great Joe Hunter.

Both of these tracks are available on CD, on Goldmine's "For Millionaires Only" volumes 3 and 2 respectively.
Incidentally, Dennis was touring recently with a group he called "The Dennis Edwards Temptation Review". (Or he was, until a Mr Williams slapped an injunction on them over the use of the word "Temptation") The group released a Live album, and in my opinion they sound more like the (classic) Temptations than the current line-up!

The legalities were worked out, and Dennis Edwards is indeed touring with the "Temptations Revue" -- they do quite a few gigs, although on a smaller scale than Otis Williams' Temptations.
I know who I'd rather hear sing "Papa Was a Rolling Stone"!

Hi David and everyone, Rob Reeco is Bob Hamilton. Dennis also wrote a couple of songs that were recorded by The Celebrities and released on the BOSS label in Detroit during the mid 60s.

Is this Boss label related to the Sport/Boss/Sir-Rah stable? From what I remember, the Celebrities label is red but the art work is different.
