I would love to hear any details of Jack Montgomery; who is / was he. I gather from a couple of postings I have read that may not have been his real name. In particular I am intrigued to learn the background to my favourite record by him Baby take a chance on me, because it is so unlike a detroit recording; not a string or vibe in site, but the gutsiest horn section outside Memphis or Muscle shoals, and a sort of jerky beat that defies the listener to remain still. Could it be that with Stax etc having big records at the time it was recorded (1966), they thought that was the way to go. Also, unusually for the time, the instrumental break features a flute. For the record the writers are W Terry & M Jones, the Producer was John Terry and the arranger was D Moore.

PS And how could I forget one of the best female backups ever. In short the record is perfection in under three minutes.

On the afore-mentioned web page there is a discography of the chap. The B-side of 45 on Auston's is an instrumental of the A-side. The publisher is billed as 'Cash Flow Music'. This is apt after reading Don Mancha's account! The name 'Jozelle' must be a corruption of Jones and Grizzell!
