my name is david tenorio. i grew up in Wayne, Michigan and am the brother in law of Lynn Bruce, the man who played drums with the RoyalTones and Johnny and the Hurricaines among others. This is truly a fascinating website. I have some very good memories of the 50's & 60's in Detroit. I used to attend record hops all over the metro area - by the way Club 182 was located on Plymouth Road just west of Wayne Road in Livonia -and hung out a lot with Larry Dixon of WCHB. My mother's house in Westland is five minutes away from Jackie Wilson's grave, which I have visited quite often, and 10 minutes away from the WCHB studios off Henry Ruff Road. I have many memories of record hops at the Light Guard Armory, Graystone Ballroom, Grande, Mr. Kelly's, the Stork Club, Dutchess Lounge, etc., etc. When I was in high school my three sisters and I used to dance on Mickey Shorr's Saturday Dance Program, every Saturday from 12 - 1 pm. We met numerous stars during these shows as well as at the record hops. I became quite familiar with Smokey Robinson and his then wife Claudia, the rest of his group. My older sister at one time worked as a bar tender at the 20 Grand where I used to catch some of the great motown acts just starting up during that time, i.e., Phil Upchurch, Temptations, the Miracles, etc., etc.
My mother still lives in Wayne and I visit her quite often. Marilyn was quite correct about the teen club in Wayne, it was the Way-Four on Wayne Road, just south of Ford Road, and I went there many, many times during my high school years.

Hi David
Welcome to the forum.
Apparently Eddie Bbongo Brown is buried in Westlawn but when I asked at the office no one knew.
Were you aware of this?

Hiya David,
Nice to see you on the forum David, you obviously have a lot of memories of the Detroit music scene in the sixties and would be great if you would share them with us.
My name is Alan Pollard and I live in Stockport, England and I am a very keen lover of Detroit Soul Music, Detroit music from all decades but predominantly the 60's is very popular in the United Kingdom and every weekend there are venues that have 500 to 600 people, sometimes more, packed in dancing the night away to records by people like Tammi Terrell, The Magnetics, Jimmy Delphs, Milton Wright, Peoples Choice, J.T.Rhythm, The Temptations, Four Tops, Lewis Sisters, Sharon McMahon etc. Do you know any of these artists or any of the other Detroit Artists ?
In June we have here in the UK a weekender at a seaside resort called Cleethorpes where 2000 people will pack inside to watch the great Velvelettes live and also the awesome Dennis Coffey will be live he played guitar on many brilliant Detroit recording sessions.
Best Regards
Alan Pollard

David-Glascow: Dave Ihad no problems in visitng Jackie Wilson's grave in Wayne, MI. I know it had been vandalized several times and I believe they were kind of cautious about revealing where Jackie's grave was exactly, but I had no problem in finding it there. Next time I visit my mother I'll take some pictures of the grave site, or, you might want to ask my brother in law Lynn S (the best drummer I've ever seen, and best brother in law anyone could have), because Lynn is only about 15 minutes away from Jackie's grave.

Hitsville45: yeah I have a ton of mempories of the 50's and 60's in Detroit. What with being Lynn's brother in law, we made all or most of his gigs, so I met a lot of artists through him, and I also met a lot of artists through the Mickey Shorr Dance Pary, and also through Larry Dixon, the DJ at WCHB. By virtue of going to some many teen clubs throughout the week, usually about 3-5, I also got to know a lot of artists that way. I will give more when I have time, at work now, will write more later.

Hi David
Sorry, yes I've seen Jackie's grave in Westlawn.
The other one I'm interested in is that of Eddie Bongo Brown.
