I have over 100 books on Soul Music but none feature a pic of Detroit Legend Armen Boladian.

This time he is sandwiched between myself, Millie Felch and Harry Dhesi. I am keeping a solo pic for later use.

Armen is the consumate professional. I met many people in Detroit this month who spoke highly of him.

I hope our friends from the Funkadelic Fan Club like this one too.

Dear David:

What a terrific night that was, rain and all! Armen is one of a kind...amazingly talented, incredibly warm and good hearted, with a genuinely kind soul! If everyone had a friend like Armen, the world would surely be a better place! Oh yes, David, you and Harry look cute too!

I only met Armen once but it's a great story.

I was the program director of a college radio station for a summer. We needed records to play so naturally I went and asked first at Motown where I knew people. The icy response I got was that Motown didn't "service" college stations.

My next stop was Armen's distributing company which I had found in the Yellow Pages. He welcomed me into his office where he was in the middle of a meeting with Danny Fields of Elektra Records, one of the labels he distributed. They played me a Tim Buckley album and several other of Danny's new albums asking my opinion. Then Armen pulled out several singles on labels I had never heard of and played them. By the end of an hour, I had more records than I could carry back to the car in one trip. I took the records up to the station in East Lansing and played the ones I liked for a few of our jocks.

About a year later I ran into one of the jocks and found out that the station had gotten gold record plaques for being the first in the country to break two of the singles that Armen had given me. I always felt a wonderful sense of justice about that.
