Just a few questions that maybe someone can answer regarding the Darrell Banks Stax Album 'Here To Stay'.
I was wondering if any one can confirm where the sessions took place. To me the album sounds as if they took place in both Detroit & Memphis.
The engineers on the album are listed as Ron Capone, Ed Wolfrum & Don Davis. Ron Capone was the Stax Engineer in the mid to late 60's. Also the arrangers are listed as Burt Keys & Rudy Robinson. So there is a Detroit-Memphis connection there.
Seven of the songs have a definite Detroit feel to the rhythm tracks but the other 4(Just Because Your Love Has Gone , We'll Get Over,When A Man Loves A Woman & Beautiful Feeling) have a definite Stax feel.
The Guitar fills on 'Just Because Your Love Has Gone' sounds very much like Steve Cropper. The other guitar that plays the intro sounds as if it is a Detroit guitarist (Eddie Willis or Dennis Coffey perhaps?) but the general feel of the basic track is that of a Stax session.
I assume that the vocals were recorded in Detroit and any other elements of the assumed Stax sessions overdubbed there as well.
I may be totally wrong of course but I'd be grateful if someone could claryify/add any info to this.
Cheers
Paul
