Does anyone have a more complete Dotty's listing and info?

Dotty's - D-345 - Johnny Hampton - Don't Lead Me On/Not My Girl
Dotty's - D-346 - Little Roger Hatcher - I Need You/Part Over Yonder
Dotty's - D-347 - Lee Jennings - Going And Get It/The Hit Men - Going And Get It (Instr.)
Dotty's - D-350 - Gail Nevels - Takin' My Mind Off Love/He Can't Do Without Me

I know that #345 and #350 command silly money. I have to make do with Sue & Mel's 'Can't Do Without Me'!

Northern Del-La - T-503 - Calvin Williams - Going And Get It (Bring It To You) shares #347's backing track. There's supposed to be an unreleased version of 'Not My Girl' by the Platters too!

Ian,
I think there's another Little Roger Hatcher 45.

Yes, the Platters version was issued on a Kent LP and on a 100 Club anniversary 45, as was the instrumental cut of their version.
Gail's "Taking my mind off love" was also recorded by Carol Anderson on Whip Records (#347).
The Lee Jennings 45 came out on two different Dottys label designs - the regular plain yellow one, and an altogether more funky looking white, blue and red one! I also once had a 10" acetate of this but am ashamed to say I can't recall the label details :-(

Flynny - is it the same backing track as Carol's? Have you seen another Will Hatcher 45 on Dotty's?

Nowp, not seen any other releases apart from the ones I listed...but there's a gap in the numbers so there's always hope! ;-)
The backing track to TMMOL is different and much better IMO - earlier are harder hitting. Unfortunately it's also much more expensive than the more common (and it is common and over priced IMO) Whip 45.

Thanks Mel and welcome to the forum.

Diamond Jim was gunned down at Club Mozambique.

Sis forwarded me a newspaper article from 1967 which shows that the owner of Dotty's was in fact Clifford Marshall.

Dotty's, Star Track, and Whip were all owned by Sonny Marshall, though I have seen places where James Riley is listed as a co-owner, so maybe he was involved, too. In any case, my understanding is that it was Marshall who ran the day-to-day operation. All three went under very suddenly when the police came and shut down the whole operation and carted Mr. Marshall off to jail in the summer of 1968 on charges of drug trafficking. The government got the building and everything in it--tapes, records, equipment, all of it. What became of it thereafter I have no idea, but it seems unlikely that any music would have survived. I also don't know what became of Mr. Marshall after he served his sentence--if, indeed, he emerged from his incarceration alive. Note that the Gail Nevilles 45 is on the same multi-colored label as some copies of Johnny Hampton, which suggests (but doesn't prove) that the first pressing of Not My Girl was yellow, then the label was redesigned prior to the second pressing. John Manship's book lists the Nevilles record as also being on Star Track, but I'm sorry to say I can't confirm it. Has anybody ever seen one?

Used to have the Gail Nevels but on Star-Trek rather than on Dotty's I'm pretty sure, sold it to a well-known UK dealer for a good few pennies...
