Ok lets try this again...
I'm madly in love with Brenda Holloway. Her voice just strikes a cord in me like few other singers have been able to and I can't seems to get enough of her. Recently I bought the Very Bet of Brenda Holloway and was suprised to learn that the first producer she worked with at Motown was Eddie Holland. Does anyone know what songs they cut together? And is there a listing somewhere of all the tracks that Brenda recorded while with Motown??
I'm hoping that maybe Harvey H. or John Lester might know the answer to my questions. Or what about live recording and Christmas tracks. I had the priviledge of hearing some unreleased tracks by Brenda and they just made my heart melt. What an underrated talent Brenda was at Motown.
P.S. Finding this board really is like finding Home.

I picked up 'the artistry of Brenda Holloway' in 1970.
I didn't know of the lady then and although the violin on the cover kind of scared me I took the plunge.
Today it's still one of my favourite albums.
Welcome to the forum Supremeross.

Hi all,
When Brenda came to UK with Kim Weston a few years ago I was lucky enough to see both performances and although I am not usually a fan of the 'backing track' appearances I have to say she was absolutely delightful. We were also lucky enough to spend some time backstage with her and my wife took some stunning photos of Brenda both on and off stage. On my return to UK in the summer I will forward them to to you Dave if you wish. The long blue dress she had on really set her off. When she walked out on stage at the Ritz to 'I'll be available' you could have knocked me down with a feather. The sight of Andy Rix sat at the back of the stage transfixed by her is a memory I'll never forget!! Memories Andy? A great night.
Regards,
Dave

Thanks Dave.
Yes I'd like to see a pic of that show.

Supremeross...I can't start listing them all so here are a couple
Who Could Ever Doubt My Love
Sweet Thing.....
The latter is particularly interesting cos as you will be aware, it is a Smokey song and it was a Smokey song that Brenda failed to finish at her last visit to Hitsville USA.
I obviously mentioned those two titles for a very good reason (arf arf!!) I could have added "til Johnny Comes" but that is not unreleased! Hee hee
So you are a big lover of Brenda.....well, mate I know at least one HUGE Brenda lover who goes all googly eyed at the mention of her name!
When I chatted to Brenda at the RItz in Manchester, she said that she nad Eddie had a little bit of a "thing" nothing serious BUT!! ..and of course, it was Eddie that coaxed her to record for Invictus.......
Brenda deserves a BOX SET - she recorded THAT much stuff!
Did you see that Brenda is well represented on the proposed Cellarful of Motown?

John -
WHAT? A different "Sweet Thing" to the one we know?

I believe it must be the same song as the Diana Ross ( and the Andantes) "Sweet Thing" already released on several compilations (the 1986 Never Before Released Masters, 1995 Anthology & 2000 Box Set)

hello Mike S...you are right....
and Ritchie....R huh......I think that is how Brenda might say it..BUT, as you know, Brenda ran out of the session and so it probably wasn't finished...unless our main BH man can find one....OR, maybe he could get her to finish it!!
Brenda seems to have a huge following of fans....
I think we need to ask her to come back here again, we're missing her

When Brenda came to the UK with Kim a couple of years back, everyone was asking Brenda all these questions...the poor girl didn't know who to nswer first..all a bit overwhelming for her.
But what we did get out of her was that she recorded "Here Are The Pieces of My Broken Heart" but she said she could only remember doing it to the finished band track including a full string section.
If the thought of that don't make you gasp, you aint got soul!!

Hey John L. thanks for the imput. I've actually heard Brenda's unfinished version of "Here Are The Pieces of My Broken Heart" and she's only accompanied by a piano on the track, but none the less still fabulous.
I really wish Motown would just do an anthology on Brenda like they plan on Billy Eckstine and Barbara McNair. How great would that be, throw in some live cuts maybe, I wonder if she ever did any duets with anyone at Motown. I wonder just how much of her material is unreleased.

I would be curious to know the source of this 'demo' recording of Brenda Holloway singing "Here Are The Pieces Of My Broken Heart."

Hey Harvey W.-
I heard Brenda's version about two years back, unfortunately I don't have a copy now, but she does sound great. Do you know if Motown plans on releasing any other work of Brenda's??
