bobby eli recently questioned the lack of discussion on this forum of jackie wilson.

it's crazy that aretha franklin or bettye lavette have never been mentioned.

how can a city of 2 million (sixties figures) be responsible for these two incredible voices?

how come jackie wilson and walter jackson came from there. or come to think of it, edward hamilton......

I have also noticed that Solomon Burke hasn't been mentioned either.

I am sure all these wonderful people will be mentioned sooner rather than later.......we have so much going on here at the moment, it's hard to keep up with it all.

You know, everytime I see a mention of Jackie Wilson, for some strange reason I think of the similarity of the intro to the Vandellas's "I Tried" and Jackie Wilson's "Etcetera Etcetera"!

For the Brits here..didn't you think that Pop Idol, Will Young, did a decent rendition of Jackie's "Sweetest Feeling"

I was surprised when I saw him perform it. It is a great song and I was pleased to see it appear before so many people, who probably did not know its roots. I hope Will has done his research on Mr Wilson to learn the history of the great man. I wish I could get 13 weeks on national television with one of my songs! The nation in a frenzy watching this programme means a number of hit records for somebody, somewhere, almost guaranteed. What a great advertisement. I think the tv stations came up with a winner there. How times have changed. Do you remember 'Opportunity Knocks' and I mean that most sincerely, friends?!!

Jackie was one of my best friends up until he was struck down. What does anyone want to know? By the way,I did NOT like Tony Douglas's book about him. He seemed to take the word of only Jackie's discarded women. What a shame!
