Excellent work - what a wonderful education. Certainly deeper than the eye can see!

Ritchie,
I can't seem to post over there. It's my third reading and I'm still taking it all in. You must have spent months collating let alone writing. Great job. Awesome.

Hi all

Thanks for the comments - it's appreciated. Altogether, the piece took about nine months, from start to finish. Now I'm ready to start the next project!

Chris - I couldn't get in to Soulsville at all last night, and Sis mailed me to say the same. Yahoo - don't you just love 'em!? I just tried a test posting - which went through OK, so I guess the problems are sorted - for the moment, at least.

Wonderful stuff as always! I had a shufty through yesterday. I can see I'm going to have to spend more time in the details and also the Anorak site. Boy, I wouldn't mind a few of those records!

Re Soulsville UK @ Yahoo -

Sorry I've not been in for a few days... At the moment I just can't post at the Group as I keep getting "connection timed out" messages. It's even more frustrating as it's my own group!

Re. label scan on your website: have you a copy of Richard Street & Distants on Thelma? If so, please could you give me the ZTSC numbers on either side. I couldn't quite make it out from the label scan. I've heard a few of the earlier Thelma recordings but I've never heard this one. (Jealous teath-grinding noises of frustration fade into background!)

The numbers are
82335 for ANSWER ME
82336 for SAVE ME FROM THIS MISERY

The A-side is great, the B-side OK, but derivative (shouts from the Isley Brothers of "can we have our song back please?")

Own-up time: .... and I don't own either title on vinyl, by the way!

Thanks Ritchie! No need to be embarrassed about not having every rare item on vinyl - at least you can spell 'teeth'! At least I didn't put tooths! Ain't that the tooth!

Oops, I forgot. is TY 4 2282 a telephone number or something. It features on your label scan and on Will Hatcher's 'This And That' (No I don't have that one either).

And finally...

Does anyone have ZTSC numbers for Emanuel Lasky - 'Lucky To Be Loved By You'/'Our World' on Thelma T-103?

Collectors have to have SOMETHING to write on our anoraks!

Top of pageBottom of page   By Ian W (213.122.6.35 - 213.122.6.35) on Sunday, April 14, 2002 - 08:24 pm:

John, I guess I'm just being completist. Is there such a word? There is now! I think that series of numbers (although I know now they have nothing directly to do with Detroit) started me collecting in the first place. If you sort Detroit 45's in ZTSC order (and I realise I'm sounding a bit of an anorak) it makes interesting reading! Thanks Columbia!

Top of pageBottom of page   By Ritchie (62.254.0.6 - 62.254.0.6) on Sunday, April 14, 2002 - 08:29 pm:

Hi Ian

TY4-2282 was the phone number, I believe.

Graham should have the info on the wonderful Emanuel Lasky 45. (It's in the box I returned to you, Graham!)

I have a label scan somewhere, but it might be quicker for you to get the info from Taiwan!

Top of pageBottom of page   By Ian W (213.122.6.35 - 213.122.6.35) on Sunday, April 14, 2002 - 08:41 pm:

I think I'll give 'em a ring, Ritchie, they might still have all the Thelma records I'm missing! Well you never know. OK I'm dreaming. I'll get my coat!

Funnily enough I spoke to Emanuel just the other day - he sounds great. Did this guy ever make a bad record?
I'll gig out the ZTSC numbers when I get home and post them up here.
John - ZTSC numbers are a good way of dating releases.

"Lucky To be Loved By You" was not released on Thelma, it came out on the Wild Deuce label, and by fluke is # 1003.
There is no Thelma 103 - the numbers jump from 102 to 104.
Emanuel Laskey's earlier 45, "I Need Somebody" was released on Thelma - but with no master number; it was also issued on the NPC label # 303.
(Thelma) I Need Somebody - ZTSC 94494. Tomorrow - ZTSC 94495

Hi Graham,Ian,
Re:Emanuel Laskey,i have this info,

I need somebody/Tomorrow-Thelma 2282???

Tomorrow/I need somebody-Thelma 94494/5 1963

Lucky to be loved by you/Our world-Thelma 103(not issued) 1964

All seems to be a bit confusing to me:-).

Thanks Graham and Dave. I've got the NPC item but would prefer the Thelma copy. Maybe one day! I also have documented 'Lucky To Be Loved By You' on Wild Deuce - 829, same B-side.

Is the 2282??? another released item? The confusing stuff makes collecting worth while though!

Top of pageBottom of page   By acooolcat (61.222.95.58 - 61.222.95.58) on Tuesday, April 16, 2002 - 06:56 am:

Hi Dave f,
2282 - or whatever - was Thelma Record's telephone number that appeared on the earlier releases. Some record companies did this so that customers could call and order more copies etc.
Ian - Thelma 103 was never released, and if it had been - wouldn't have been Emanuel Laskey's "Lucky To Be loved By You." Another 45 was scheduled for release but was cancelled. I don't know about Wild Deuce number 829 - but I'll look at my copy when I go home and see if it's on the label anywhere. Maybe # 829 it was a promo copy?

My "issue" also has that number Dave.
I just looked at recordmaster.com and saw a 45 - Thelma 103 credited to Emanuel Laskey, called "Happy Man" - Where did that one come from?
