An emancipation day celebration (now Freedom Festival) was held in Windsor every summer and I know a lot of Detroit artists would enter a talent contest in Jackson Park. There was usually an evening concert - booked by Frank Brown - held in the Windsor Arena. Does anyone remember attending these events?

acoolcat, I didn't know that! Thanks for the history behing the Freedom Festival.
For those of you across the pond, here is a brief history of the Windsor Arena. Built in 1924 it was known as the Border Cities Arena. The Detroit Red Wings (then known as the Cougars) played their first season there, because the Olympia wasn't completed.
Jackson Park, used to be the sight of an old Horse Racing Track, the grandstand was used later for concerts, even though the track was long gone. It burned down in the late 50's early 60's.
